That's cheap!

It's funny that some of you guys are having a hard time finding 00. I need to stop in at Stock and Field and see what they have. They're closing all their stores and last time I was in there, the shotgun ammo was all 10% off. Pretty sure I saw 00 when I was in there. I need to grab some for yote huntin anyhow!

This "shortage" of ammo has been going on for years. I cant believe no one has simply increased their capacity to handle it. Pretty low tech.

No one likes to invest money in machinery, labor, ect only to lay off for when the panic is over.

Notice that the only people making money or price gouging are the distributors....

Which is actually comical. When covid first hit and people where price gouging hand sanitizer. People said it was illegal, and legislation was passed against it. Yet ammo is fair game under capitalism....

Ahh, the panic. When is the panic going to be over? When it no longer makes money. So I guess ammo will continue to be in short supply.

Alternative to market prices.............

One way to beat the gougers is to roll your own ammo. When popular gauges/calibers got hard or impossible to find I broke out my old single stage press and started reloading. Fortunately, I've got a good stash of primers, cartridge cases, powder but somewhat short on bullets. If you are loading lead, cast bullets are still fairly easy to find. The jacketed ones have gotten to be somewhat pricey but not as bad as loaded ammo. I just received a 500 piece box of 9mm plated bullets that are next up to be assembled into useable rounds. One thing that I found is that old stashes of ammo you can no longer use/need can be swapped for something useful. If you are willing to invest some time and energy, the ammo shortage will go away for you!

I was in a Tractor Supply store the other day picking up a dehumidifier can for my new spoon safe . Anyway I looked in their ammo display case ......... there was NOTHING !!! Not one box of anything ! Across from the ammo case is where the BB/pellet spoons and ammo are displayed there was ONE box of BB's on the shelf . Someone is making some $$$ .

If you don't have lead and primers in your hands right now, you aren't going to get either one anytime soon. I've been looking for small pistol primers since August. Everywhere I've looked they've been sold out. I could grab some on gunbroker if I wanted to pay $300 for 1000 primers... Yeah I'm not kidding, go look.

Fred, I have to agree with Nick. Look around for primers and powder. They are very hard to find.

With California's new ammo laws I haven't bought anything since the Gun Shows. Who knows if those will go the way of the dinosaur now with Covid and the political climate here.

Thanks for posting that Jeff! I guess I'll slow my search for primers a bit as it sounds like they aren't going to be hitting the market anytime soon.

Down here in beautiful South Georgia powder has not been hard to find. I have had to step out and try some makes that I've not used before but turns out they work pretty well. I was in my LGS a couple of weeks ago when a store order was delivered. There were several large boxes of gunpowder and 5 cases of primers. So, I grabbed 3 1000 piece boxes of primers and a couple pounds of powder. The new boxes of primers along with what I have on hand will keep me going for a pretty good while. I do need to order some 44 Special cast bullets and some 45 ACP jacketed bullets. I'm in pretty good shape for 9mm with a large box of 115 grain plated bullets. I've got a pretty good supply of brass in 9mm, 45 ACP, 38 Special, 357 Mag,44 Special and 44 Mag. I guess it really depends on what part of the country you're in as to what is available. Good luck everyone!

The whole whining about shortage/profit taking manufacturers is really old news.

5 MILLION NEW GUN OWNERS LAST YEAR
.
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/five-million-americans-became-first-time-gun-owners-in-2020/

Let that sink in for a minute. If each of them need 200 round to learn how to shoot you are looking at 1 BILLION additional rounds per month needed plus those who were caught off guard by the shortage and are now trying to stock up. The manufacturers are working 24/7 but can't keep up. They can't build facilities now - its too late.
The the true profit takers are the crooks at websites like 'Cheaper than Platinum' and resellers at ammoseek... Gun owners are being screwed by their own.

Powder is easy to come by here. Large pistol and Rifle primers are pretty easy too. Small pistol primers are almost like they don't even exist at this point in time or at any point over the last 5 or 6 months that I've been looking.

Two hours worth of pretty relaxing work, listening to some old blues to boot. Two bullet molds alternating to keep them at ideal temperatures, resulting in a pretty good pile of both .357 mag / .38 Special and .45 Colt bullets. Yeah, the neighbors might wonder why their cars all shimmy a bit on the freeway sometimes, but as long as they keep going to the tire shops to get their wheels rebalanced, I have an unlimited supply of free bullet metal...
