Mike gives good advice

This is what you are after, or something like this, for when it is cracked and to prevent cracks. Trust and believe you will wish you had them sooner.

I never even considered dehydration or glue or even those toe covers. Thanks again all!

I used to handle a lot of cardboard boxes. My fingers would crack, starting at the back of the fingernail and moving backwards toward the knuckles. Tried several things that did not work. Corn Husker's Lotion worked.

This is what I use from time to time. I wet sand Kia bodies all day getting them ready for paint, so my hands are constantly getting wet. Sometimes I will get some cracking on my thumbs and this stuff works well for cracked skin.

For hand sanitizer: Vaseline makes one that is like a lotion. I highly recommend using that

If you wash and sanitize a lot how frequently should you use lotion?

I get the slathering up before bed with light gloves on but for routine maintenance what would the frequency be?

I'm going to get some.

I am not a lotion guy and my hands can prove it.

lol...in the immortal words of Bernie Mac "You know, I've tried all sorts of moisturizers. I even went fragrance-free for a whole year. Now my sister, she uses some kind of uh... uh... uh... uh... aloe vera with a little sunscreen in it, and ideally, we should all wear gloves when going to bed, but I found out that that creates a kind of an interference with my... "social agenda", you know what I mean."

If you don't want to try the crazy glue route for an open crack in your finger tip, try New Skin. It works almost like crazy glue, but smells like cloves and is a bit thicker. Also works good on most other scrapes and cuts.

If you do any woodworking /sanding in the winter combined with hand-washing 10-20 times a day, the fingers start to crack the dust sucks the moisture out of the skin and the soap dries it out.. I apply to Neosporin to the cuts/ cracks & I try to remember to apply something like or "Savanna Bee" or Aquaphor at night.
