Big shippers charge the Buyer about the same..

Through Ebay FED Ex gives a discount rate...

From the email I got today. I really like the spin they put on it. Like they are helping someone beside ebay.

We are updating the payments experience on eBay to enhance the buying and selling experience on the marketplace.

Why is the way I’m getting paid on eBay changing?
We are updating the payments experience on eBay to enhance the buying and selling experience on the marketplace. We believe this is an opportunity to deliver a more seamless experience for both buyers and sellers, while offering a greater choice in payment and payout options.

Is there anything I need to do right now?
Please update your account details, including adding your bank account information, by February 28, 2021 to ensure there are no interruptions to your ability to create new listings and avoid potential payout delays. Learn more and get started here.

How are my fees changing?
Your eBay selling fees and expenses will be automatically deducted from your earnings before you get paid. The remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account. You'll no longer have to pay PayPal payment processing fees and no more separate monthly fee payments. Examples of eBay selling fees include: insertion fees, listing upgrades, and store subscription fees.

If you plan to resell why would you pay $20 for a widget if you knew it would be expensive to ship and your ROI would be small or non existent. You either get the item cheaper or you WALK AWAY and look for something else. It is called being SAVVY...

You OVERPAID AT $20...

That is what Ebay SOLD PRICES are for...the know nothings...you can look up price structures...that makes it too easy for Dummies...they do not have to know ANYTHING nor learn anything..I see it all the time.

I admit I have become one of them.. it keeps me from making mistakes..

I recently bought a $1800 practically nu 2 tone Mauri wingtip Italian Alligator shoes for less than $10...too bad they do not fit. I saw them picked em up saw the brand and said MINE!. Mauri is a high quality exotic skin Italian shoe mfg... you rarely see them..

Not exactly. The company I used to work for negotiated discounts with shippers. FedEX, UPS and others competed for our business. Why would ebay sellers not do the same ?

My mistake I should clarify....big Seller Retailers....charge the Buyer about the same as the small guys shipping charge. their shipping savings are built into their margin so they can price the unit for less.

there are volume Amazon book dealers who will sell a book for a $1 because they can make a few cents on the shipping.

I only sell stuff to make it go away, not to make big $$$$. It will not likely be on ebay now. I am mostly a buyer. What can I say ? Its Ebay or Amazon for that.

You just have to know how to navigate this crap and that comes from experience. For the occasional Seller it is more about getting rid of something and getting some money out of it than making a profit. For the Reseller it is about cost of unit...is it a gud deal or not...selling price is more or less in a range. Shipping is variable as to zone...Buyer has to pay or you can use a USPS FLAT RATE BOX...

You are not going to sell a 5K art object/antique on CL or FBMKTPL...you can on Ebay because it has exposure...more than 5K you go to a specialty auction house and consign...and then you have to pick an auction house where your item sells well. If it is expensive enough you negotiate Sellers premium. On some things I have gotten 1% Seller premium..because the auctioneer is making 15% to 20% on the Buyers Premium. Imagine a hammer price of 1M..thats 150K to 200K to the auctioneer for a few minutes on the block..and that kind of item DRAWS lots of potential Buyers to peruse your catalog of items.

Autos are bigger ticket and diff.

Auction buying and selling is a whole diff animal...

I sell on ebay every day. Iv been doing it long enough I know my way around getting the shipping as cheap as possible which is critical. Casual or new sellers dont and they dont make any money and sometimes even cost more than they make. The only times iv lost money is when I get returns and have to pay shipping twice. But its very rare. You need a full inventory of boxes and shipping materials to do it effectively. I havnt heard about the canceling of paypal I thought the new program was optional. I dont read much emails. But Ill deal with it when it the time comes If i have to. I have a completely seperate bank for paypal and utube anyway. That does suck because i dont know how i would take payments from selling on forums and off ebay. Other than that I guess it wouldnt be a big deal.

I am not giving them either. I will just not sell on ebay. I would rather not sell at all. Craigs list is not what it was but it still works for me.

I sell mostly film camera equipment that keeps popping up around the house. Every time I think I sold the last item, I find a couple of full boxes again. For me, the buyer pays shipping. They're small items so shipping is not a big deal and I start my minimum at a low price so the buyers can bid low as they'll have to pay for shipping. At this point all the high end stuff is gone so I also sell just to get it out of the house. I get boxes for free from USPS and packing material is recycled from when I buy something online. I've tried Craigslist, and FB Market place. Never received any offers. May be because of what I'm selling, but on ebay it all sells. The biggest problem I have on ebay is buyers that win the bid and never pay, so I have to relist. As a matter of fact I have a Canon lens that is relisted for the 3rd time since the previous bidders never paid. And Ebay does nothing about them. If you don't have $45, why the %@#& are you bidding?!?!?!?

I also have a car listed on eBay at the moment. I have received a few offers up to now which are starting to get close to what I’m willing to accept. So fingers crossed it won’t be long until it sells. Just found an interesting read on ebay vs craigslist https://bricta.com/selling-a-car-on-ebay-vs-craigslist/ . Anyone uses it?

Well ebay kicked me off last spring about may. I finally got back into it again. I needed to make a new bank account because it needs to be a personal checking account. All the sites are doing this now its the law. Not ebays fault. Anyhow it seems to be working out. Im still not totally confirmed because i screwed up the microdeposit thing. But Im still getting paid so I dont know what thats really for.

Ebay seems to make things more complicated than they need to be. I remember when I first got started on ebay, I think Paypal was required . I had to to a transaction for 2 cents to get started.

This is all bad news for me as I have accumulated some machine tools that don't fit what machines I have.

A few suggestions that occurred to me are:
Sell on dedicated forums.
Sell on Nextdoor if you have it in your area.
CL in for the 3rd.
I did sell one thing a couple years ago on FB marketplace, but it took awhile. But it seems viable.

The one thing all the above have in common is cash-in-hand and no returns/non payment due to shenanigan's. All my CL deals have gone well.

And a funny note: back in my 911 active building days of the early 2000's I got burned more times buying things off Pelican For Sale. I won't buy anything where there's not a buyer's guarantee. So that brings you back to eBay. I guess it will become another Amazon constructed of tens of thousands of stores.

Thanks for the info here as I was about to list a bunch of machine parts. Anyone need any metal lathe parts?
