Daytona Rolex 24 and Roar starts this weekend

Anyone attending?

The Speedway has banned tent camping and are requiring fans to distance themselves from each other. But the biggest and most disappointing change is the garage area and the pre-race driver introduction and pre-race grid car line up will not be open to fans. Those who already bought tickets could delay until next year which a friend of mine elected to do. Therefore attendance will be down.

One change this year is the Roar Before the 24 was moved to the weekend before the Rolex which has it's pros and cons for the teams. It does mean they make the trip down here only once but they have less time to make any needed car adjustments and tuning.

I'll be driving down tomorrow morning and staying until the night practice is complete which will allow me to see all the cars run. The cars running at night is always a cool sight. The weather should be pretty nice too.

If anyone wants to meet up this weekend or next let me know by PM and will schedule it.

Paul, My son and I went last you and I met you in the garage area. This year since they closed it off we decided not to attend. Maybe next year.

I’ve been flagging at Turn 3 for the weekend.

GTLM Porsche is the most distinctive sounding car. GTD Porsches have good pace.

ROAR race should start ~2:05EST. Light rain now.

I enjoyed the Roar 100 today. Winner seemed to think some cars were sandbagging. Will see who is fast next week.

Personally, I think the Pfaff car will be hard to beat over a season. I don't think there is a stronger GTD pairing than Vanthoor and Robichon.

Interesting to see M-Benz back with 2-3 GTD cars this year. I don't remember any last year. And only one Acura GTD this year.

BTW it sucks not having garage access this year. Being close to the cars and the crews and drivers will be missed. It would have been cool to see all the NASCAR and CART drivers in person. Damn COVID
