LIPO Batteries
Any LIPO experts here?
I have a FLIR Camera for my iPhone. Battery dead and will not take a charge. Manufacturer no help. I've found articles for replacing other flir batteries, but not this model. I was able to find a 2 wire replacement, but the original is 3 wire (white) which from google seems to be for monitoring temp while charging. https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/152053/replace-a-three-wire-tablet-battery-with-a-two-wire-one I think I should cut the board off the new battery and move the old PCB to the new battery, but if the temp monitoring isn't critical, I'll just ground out the white like the above article. ![]() LOL Nicads were current technology when I graduated EE.

I had to do something similar with my pool remote. I ended up looking for a battery with similar dimensions off Amazon. I clipped the wires and installed. The thermal management was on the board, so it wasn't an issue.

I think the simplest is to cut these 2 tabs, on the old and new batteries, and connect the new battery to the old board. I was surprised these batteries(LIPO) have attached circuits. I just wanted a confirmation that the cells are interchangeable. Same numbers on the pack, which seem to be metric size and capacity.

They are. And I wasn't too worried about the exact capacity. I just wanted it to fit in the device. Working great now. The old one was severely bloated.

Thanks RB. I guess it's not rocket science..... except it is.

I thought this thread was about fat Bettys when I first saw the title.

The monitoring is to detect something is up and cut it off. If something is up and it isn't cut off, kablooie. The bloat was an indication that the battery wasn't far from going off. In the early days of RC racing using these and prior to the per cell monitoring these things have burned down houses. Lipo has incredible performance stats for a battery, but it also has increased risks. |

The small board is probably battery management and temp monitoring. I’d try and preserve that. Looks like quick connect ribbon cable? Have you tried to find a direct replacement on eBay, Amazon, or alibaba ?

I've tried both the 2-wire and 3 wire boards with a new battery. Internal charging circuit still will not charge the battery.
It will not be pretty, but I'm going to bring the power wires outside the case and use an external battery and charger. Velcro or I'll fire up the plastic printer one night and make a cover. Batteries are cheap, and the runtime was short, so I'll call the external swappable batteries a feature....

If you are doing external cells, Id go with an 18650 type cell with built in protection. You can buy a little holder as well as cheap chargers, and in general are much more consumer friendly than pouch type LIPO cells.
The pouch cells have more coinvent form factor for embeding and have higher power density but those dont matter for an external battery.
