When we got near the Porsche (not knowing it was mine) she said "Oh my God, a Porsche 911, I love these things." I said "You look left and right, and if I can get it started I'll give you a lift home in it." LOL, as we drove back to her place a bit concerned we had stolen it. But she figured out I wasn't that crazy. |

We only had one car at the time. My husband called "I found you a car". He drove me down to look at the 911 and was hooked. Little did I know, a couple years later I would hear "it's not really fair that you have a Porsche to drive and I don't". The search for the 930 began. He searched for his perfect one and found it on eBay. Now, 15 years later, we have his and hers. Win-win for everyone.

I guess I should've asked which one, as I've faced the challenge of creatively delivering the news a half-dozen times - and that's just the 911s!

I trained her during 5 years of dating. During my 9 years between marriages, I ended up with a fleet of 22 motorcycle, a '62 XKE roadster, a '68 912 Coupe and still have the 73.5 911 Targa I bought 30 years ago.
She knows the deal.

First I restored her dad's '44 Jeep. Then I said it's my turn and just went out and bought a project. Actually two projects that took up about 6 years. Then after they were gone and I had an itch, I bought the '88 Carrera which became another project when I designed and installed my custom bumpers.
![]() When I sold that one she was sad. She liked my car as much as she liked (likes) her 2000 Boxster. So, I don't dare sell the Box. And that's a twist to the OP's title, how do you tell your wife you sold her car? I'm guilty. |

Yeah, I get it. I turned to “retail therapy” every time a dating relationship fell through. After acquiring a couple of bikes and a few cars I had to chose between building a bigger garage and learning to be more charming and less of a nerd. I love MrsWD, but still dream of living in an efficiency apartment above a 17 car garage - with her of course.

Great question!
My wife was touring Ireland with her Mom. She knew I had been looking and i was under the impression that I had permission. Found a great car after kissing some toads and bought it. She was ok until I drove it home and it was beige metallic (gold) which she hated. Then, I get a 930 wild hair. I walk out one morning and say “honey, I’m looking at a car and won’t spend a penny over X.” I show up with a loud, gorgeous 930. She was PISSED. I was sort of forgiven when they were sold. After I bought the Boxster she asked, will we make money on this? I laughed and told the truth. |
