Grandkids are AWESOME!

For the past year, I've been working from home in a 1 bedroom apt. My wife has also been watching our grandsons who just turned 2 and 5. It was great to see them so much, and since I was working, I could mostly tune them out. For the past month, I've been working at our new place in the country, so it's just been me and the dog.

Today, the missus brought the boys at lunch to stay with us until Fri afternoon. When they arrived they were super excited to see me, and super excited to be someplace new where they can run and play. I was still working. I had apparently gotten used to the pandemonium that accompanies 2 very young boys. I have apparently also gotten used to the quiet.

After they arrived (which I was and still am happy about) I couldn't help but imagine this scene.

Lots of fun. All girls but at least Kalli is into cars...

And the newest Gwennie, well she likes her "kiddie pool".....

No argument here.
Our 7 year old has been living with us since she was 9 months old.
I have been able to spend far more time with her than with her mother or uncle, as I am retired.
Yesterday she advised me she and her Nona had heard Billy Joel's "Longest Time " on the radio. She recognized it from listening to me practice for gigs.
At least she has a sense of humor.

Best

We are expecting things to pick up within the next month as our son is expecting #2 & #3 TWIN boys sometime in early May. With four granddaughters already I'm stoked about the boys. It will be a lot of work but I think my wife is looking forward to playing grandma since these guys will be close by. 3 of the 4 granddaughters live in Japan so not much real time interfacing except on Facetime with them. Can't wait.

You had two grandkids with you at your place and you were working?

You coming up with a cure for cancer or something? If not, you are spending your time doing the wrong stuff. The under 10 years for grandchildren go by in less than 10 years, some sort of quirk in the fabric of space-time. You will not look back and think, "I wish I spent less time with the grandchildren when they were little."

I'm thinking as long as they are "grand"kids, that's not so bad. You can turn them back over to their parents if/when they are irritating. It's the kids that you're stuck with. But once you've got grandkids, you've probably already survived at least one teenager.

Well, considering I loosely work "regular" office hours, and they showed up at lunch, yeah, I was working.

My wife has been watching the one that will turn 5 in a month since he was 3 months old. For the first 3 years, I probably got to hang out with him 12-20 hours a week, and for the past year, it's probably been 40-60 hours a week, up until about a month ago. They arrived at lunch time yesterday and we'll take them back to their mom tomorrow afternoon. I'm getting plenty of time and count myself quite lucky.

I've got to get the "hitch" for the mower so I can tow them around, but in the mean time, they seemed to enjoy the ride all around the property.

hunting for "special" rocks which are now all in a jar.

That is what I am talking about, much more important than anything else you could think of to do.
