Sucks that Canada can only have one team going into the next round. I think Winnipeg will be the dark horse.

You should be happy we have one guaranteed spot. We don't have two teams that deserve to be there. One might be a stretch. We shall see, but I'm not confident Winnipeg or Montreal are good enough to make it to the final.
Add to their issues the possibility of no home games.

The Hab's practice was the opposite. They did numerous drills and were giving 100%. Suban lingered after practice shooting pucks. The Hab's kicked the Leaf's arses that night.

Wow, I've never heard the Canadian anthem sung like tonight, that was intense.

Holy smokes. Evans on the Habs got absolutely freight-trained on that empty net goal.

Oh yeah he was, man what a hit. I think Schiefele might be in for some discipline. Even though it's hard to pull up at full speed he may get judged as having gone in too hot since the puck was already in and he didn't try to avoid Evans.

Schiefele was definitely charging so the penalty was deserved but
-The puck was in the goal but only a fraction of a second before the hit. It was NOT a late hit. -Evans left himself totally unprotected and new someone was coming. -Schiefele didn't leave his feet and he made a shoulder hit to what would have been center mass if Evans wasn't leaning forward in a prone position. I feel bad for Evans but he shouldn't he be somewhat responsible for leaving himself in a prone position? Its not like he didn't know the hit was coming and it wasn't late.

I say mostly because I don't agree that the "checkee" leaning forward relieves the "checker" of the responsibility to at least try to mitigate the hit. I don't think the hit was cheap or dirty but there was no attempt to stay the blow.

This is all on Schiefele, the vast majority of players in his position would not have hit Evans, certainly not like that. I think 99% of them would have gone for a stick check. Even Paul Maurice admitted it was a 'heavy, heavy hit'. In other words too much for that position, that point in the game.

Just saw what Ehlers did. Props and respect for that.
https://www.bardown.com/nikolaj-ehlers-attempted-to-protect-jake-evans-as-he-was-down-on-the-ice-at-the-end-of-game-1-1.1649129 Also for the edification of all I've bolded an important bit for you POGs: Rule 42 - Charging 42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates, jumps into or charges an opponent in any manner. Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. A minor, major or a major and a game misconduct shall be imposed on a player who charges a goalkeeper while the goalkeeper is within his goal crease. A goalkeeper is not “fair game” just because he is outside the goal crease area. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with a goalkeeper. However, incidental contact, at the discretion of the Referee, will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. 42.2 Minor Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a minor penalty, based on the degree of violence of the check, to a player guilty of charging an opponent. 42.3 Major Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the degree of violence of the check, to a player guilty of charging an opponent (see 42.5). 42.4 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by charging. 42.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed. 42.6 Fines and Suspensions – Refer to Rule 23.6 – Fines and Suspensions – Physical Fouls Category. If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).
