How to scam:

1) Send fake email but include a real phone number
2) When rube calls phone number to inquire as to veracity of said email, tell rube "don't worry about it, it's a fake, we see it all the time"
3) You now know rube's email is correct, and you have his name and phone number, a few minutes later you have his address, wife's name, etc
4) Sell to dark web for $50
Rinse and repeat on next rube.

A couple of years ago my SS# was being hacked weekly. At least according to my phone messages. This year it is a weekly message that my Amazon Prime account has been hacked and is being charged with a questionable $499 charge! Surprisingly, I don't have an Amazon Prime account.

I quit using paypal 2 years ago. They kept trying to take money from a bank account that I had removed from the paypal account. I think it cost me $40 in overdraft charges before I caught it. Tried my best to close the paypal account but that did not seem possible. I completely stopped selling on ebay after that.

Does it use your actual name anywhere in the email? If not it's not from paypal. They'll call you by your registered name if it's actually from paypal.

You can buy something using your PP balance no other account info needed.

Whenever I make an online purchase with Paypal I never see an option to use my balance, otherwise I would have done it a long time ago.

Edit: Just checked Paypal again, the only way you can pay with your balance is to link a bank account or credit/debit card.

That's really strange. I've used my balance on several occasions. I think it's normally under your preferred credit card. You might have to click on "more options" or something like that but I know you can pay using your PP balance.

I set up a "Seperate" bank acct just for paypal funds. That way no one has a path to our main checking acct. I keep only a couple grand in it.

Using your balance to send payment.
Payments are automatically made using your PayPal balance first if the currency of your payment is the same as the one of your balance. To send a payment:
Click Send and Request at the top of the page.
Click Pay for goods or services.
Enter the recipient's email address, and click Next.
Enter the amount you want to send, and click Continue.
Review your payment information, and click Send Payment Now.
