Under a new ordinance in a New Jersey town, parents can be fined and even charged for their children’s unruly behavior.

The Township of Gloucester Minors and Parents Responsibility Ordinance stipulates consequences, including jail time, for parents and guardians who "fail to prevent their children from breaking the law," according to a news release from police.

The ordinance includes 28 different offenses that range from felonies to minor infractions such as loitering, breaking curfew or chronic truancy.

"If a child is repeatedly found guilty in juvenile court, their caretaker could face up to 90 days in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,000," the department said.

With all due respect to flatty and other NJ residents, a New Yorker doesn't usually compliment this neighboring state. This new law in Gloucester is going to encourage what every boomer already knows: when the parents care, the kids (usually) will behave better.

Gloucester City, NJ, offers a mix of pros and cons as a place to live. It's known for its diverse and welcoming community, vibrant food scene, and beautiful Delaware River waterfront. However, it also has a reputation for being less welcoming to those who aren't white.

I disagree. When lowlife parents have to pay money that could have bought beer and miss a day of work to explain the reason they didn't properly supervise their kids, it will cause them to be more involver ("If you ever do something stupid like that and I have to go to court I will...")
