I really think the E38 is the last 7-series that BMW built that enthusiasts want to drive and own, everything after that is a 4 year chassis and model change...heck I don't even know what the new chassis code is.

But how can you not love this?

Not sure where you are at but where I am a good shop rate is north of $160/hr. With a compression and leakdown test, pulling the wheels and other stuff to inspect, pulling and interpreting codes, and writing a report I would think you are at $500 pretty easily.

Anyhow I consider it money well spent. I could do it myself (I have all the tools and lift) but don't want to spend the time.

If the E38 is anything close to the E39 with a V8, underhood there are rubber lines for the brakes (from ABS) on the passenger side fenderwell that run very, very close to the exhaust manifold.

Guess what happens after awhile?

Check them.

Like shopping for a wife in a whore house. Lot's of pretty faces but the chance for long term happiness is slim unless there's a thorough back-ground check. Even then a good one is hard to find, be realistic with expected maintenance ahead.

Personally, if a well maintained 740 sport came up with low miles and good maintenance history, it would be hard to pass up. Especially with the Highline package, fairly rare...…...

Shame. The older Beemers go forever - I've looked at E28s with >300K - granted I haven't pulled the trigger on any, but they are much simpler cars.

I've had 2. A 95 and my now 2001 sport. 2 of the most reliable cars I have owned. The 95 to 97 are the best, engine wise. But your car sounds like one the everyone is looking for. The timing guides, if they don't sound like rattle cans, should go another 50k or lots more. I've mostly changed things I wanted to, or some small mechanical parts that went out. These always look the best when lowered. Mine is on coi lover's and the ride is great. I thinking your car should be between 4k and 8k. I wouldn't hesitate about it, and if you don't buy it please send me a pm.

If you want a BMW cruiser of that era, why would get anything other than an E39 5 series? That is probably the best car they ever made.

7 Series will nickel and dime you on all the electrical gremlins.

Hoovie has had some funny videos about his. Seems like they are cool cars, but not without some flaws.

How did the PPI go, Nickshu? Are you going to get the car?
