I still have all my 80s mags (I started getting C&D and R&T in 1984) and those are still fun to go back and read.
I started reading Automobile Magazine in 1986 and became a "charter" subscriber. I still have all of those magazines as well. I remember they used to get in a little trouble over their covers sometimes, and omg when they printed pictures from a Pirelli calendar showing naked women some people got a little upset.

Automobile had some pretty cool covers back in the day, here are a few. The one with the BMW M5 was one that had female readers a bit upset.

Here are a few more cool ones. I Love looking back through them and looking at the old car ads from the day.

Why is that when I read your posts they always seem critical and condescending of others? Do you converse with people face to face the same way?

Sorry to go off thread topic..

Watched two knuckleheads compare a new bronco and wrangler hybrid on YT today. A magazine will have a tough time competing with well done video reviews and comparisons.

EVO (UK)... Free with apple news if you got that... That's about all I read anymore...

As for EV's that's the way this is going, might as well jump on board and learn some stuff, because nobody cares if we are butthurt or it's the wrong idea, it's happening anyway.

I subscribed to Autoweek back in the days of the rag racing news days. Then they decided to go upscale and color glossy. Quality kept dropping, and dropping and dropping. All the decent writers either died off, or retired. When it went to a every two week "Autoweek" it got really spotty, and often I got two months of issues on the same day. I finally dropped them at that point. Just articles about trucks and SUVs.

Remember when there were independent news stands and book stores with hundreds of car magazines?

My collection of R&T and C/D goes back to the late 70's, but lately I have lost interest in them.

R&T has become the periodicals version of a coffee table book.

C/D has become ...well, I'm not sure. It is a graphically-intensive, superficial, very thin shadow of what it once was. The EV issue, like the "SUV" issues, appear to be an attempt to appeal to a current demographic, largely ignoring what "car guys/gals" really want except for their "save the manual" campaign.

I won't be renewing either one of them.

They're just Consumer Reports now, testing appliances. They just haven't figured it out yet.

After awhile I got tired of readying about the latest supercar's performance. The writers would use every adjective in the book to describe it. A car I'd never own and probably never see.

Actually I picked up a 2018 R & T out of the doctor's office and it was enjoyable even though I had read it initially when it was just published.

You can have your Kindle, or worse yet try and read something and catch the writing nuances on a phone.
