Thank you...it is a 3.0 auto....No rust at all...spent much of it's life in dry climates and the desert...mostly garaged. I really like the size/feel...really wish I could justify a bigger Lexus engine swap.

Oops, here's the front. https://www.lseat.com/products/1990-1997-toyota-land-cruiser-j80-custom-real-leather-seat-covers-front.html

A bunch of Pelicans have bought these and seem to be happy.

Great place I have driven by hundreds of times and never noticed.

They will replace the "bolster"...we decided I should buy the material after I mentioned the links from this post. They had the books I just wanted to match vin numbers, etc to get it exactly right.

One day, $200 scooters....no shipping etc.

They do a lot of cars and hot rods and showed me their work. Southern Maryland is actually a hot bed of hot rods and muscle cars.

The neat thing is that Kathy (the owner) has more miles on the clock than I do and got the patina vibe.
Please show us the work when finished. I have a couple jobs to send their way if you recommend.

Nope. Don't do it twice. That LC might make it beyond your years.

Mine is very rusty, mainly doors, front fenders and rear quarters, chassis is solid though

It was nearly immaculate when I bought it 7yrs ago but salty winters have made it deteriorate very quickly

The 1UZ V8 is in my LS400, an amazingly refined engine, the swap into a Surf (JDM 4Runner) has been done many times here in the UK, well documented and not a difficult or expensive conversion

I often think about doing this swap but if I do it would be along with making the interior more luxurious

Have a constant battle going on in my head, restore to original as there are very few UK spec. survivors or restore to luxury overland/explorer spec.

Have you got the 3.slow V6 or the 2.4 diesel engine?

Mine is a 3ltr turbo engine, 123bhp and 5-speed manual gearbox not fast but keeps up perfectly well with modern traffic speeds and hustles well in the corners as I have OME upgraded suspension which is a great upgrade

My last 1000mile trip across Europe we averaged door to door 53mph which included stops and even a ride on the Eurotunnel train.

Only done 235k miles but rust has really taken it's toll so when it hits 250k it will be restored back to new for its next 250k miles of life. Will add some subtle upgrades like rear locking diff and some more luxury

I've got a great guy in the UK for spare parts, he dismantles around 30 of them each year and send the parts to all over Africa, they are very sought after out there as they just keep running and running. 4Runners or the more common JDM Surfs are very cheap to buy here compared to Europe

Just yesterday a delivery guy complimented me about my truck and his friend sells them to Pakistan again this era of Toyotas are more sought after out there than the newer Toyota's. Interestingly he mentioned nobody wants the FJ40's out there as they're now too old
Very cool to hear about what's going on in the rest of the world. Being in America, we are pretty cut off from places like the middle east or Africa in terms of needs for a certain vehicles. WE are a land of Chevy, Fords and Dodge.

If I lived in Africa, I would take the 4 runner all day long over an FJ40 due to one simple thing, cargo and passenger carrying capacity and mpg.

Yes, that is the engine. The ones I have seen were a pretty clean swap, but maybe a job to hire out if I knew a competent shop that specialized in the task. But, mine is 100% stock and I have the same mentality that I do about a pristine 911 (or any nice older car). But, while it is pretty capable (and seemed pretty quick back in '94), I do really want more power now after driving a Cayenne TT if I were to start using it as my daily driver again.

Jobs done so I thought I would update.

$150 American. I know I am in the minority, but I like the wrinkly old seats. They conditioned them for me as well.

Nice. What did they do to condition them, Paul?

Someone popped out of a 7-11 asking us if we are interested in selling the 89 4 runner limited 4WD. My kid's eyes popped wide open when the guy told us that clean ones fetch more then 10k, ones with lower mileage like 150k. We are getting ours painted as we speak. Dropped it off yesterday. It will take two to three week. In the mean time, he driven my 5 gen 4 runner and says, your car has so much more power and corners well too. Oh no, I thought, don't tell me he will be a speed racer. He's jsut got his learner permit a couple months and only driven on the weekends to dinner or market with me.

It is...or whatever the right Toyota material is

I just wanted the expanding peeling (in the first pic in the thread) to go away!

I honestly have no idea. Odd, I didn't even ask!

Small Southern Maryland shop, really nice folks...we chatted about all the neat cars (hot rods) in the shop as they finished up.

Funny you mention the 4Runner. We sold our 2003 (I bought from OWP in 2005) here on Pelican, had a bunch of miles on it but still a good truck. They kept the old 2003 and bought a new one as well

My Land Cruiser has 142k on it. I bought it with 115k two plus years ago from a very good friend. Honestly, it is like driving a Frigate but I simple love the damn thing.

I understand why you like the 80. I miss mine too. Died a horrible death from a almost head on accident by a young lady in a BMW on her phone who ran a complete red. My little boy was riding up front in his booster seat when he was about 7. We were on our way to the mechanic for a tune up sitting on a red light so I can gift it to my workman the following Monday. The two cars I really miss are the 80 LC and my first gen, 88 Mr2. Great cars.
