2022 Honda Civic Hatchback
Honda just now revealed the hatchback version of the new Civic.
Very nice looking...much better than the last gen. imo. ![]() I like how the dash vents are hidden...great idea.

The last version of the civic was nasty. Looked like it was from an old Godzilla movie. Horrible rear end. Ugly car. So, they made the new car smooth and boring. Looks like a car from 15 years ago. But the swoops are gone. No longer looks like a bad cartoon car.

It looks more grown-up to me. The SI and Type R versions will be out in 2 or 3 months.

The Civic used to be their baseline econobox. Cheap. reliable. easy to fix.
Why do they always have to 'tart it up'? How about a roof rack or hitch? Something practical that everyone uses. Those front blinkers are nearly invisible when blinded by the LEDs. Every time I see an exhaust system surrounded with plastic....SMH

They should've kept the original Insight imo or used that engine in this one with more battery. That's a huge green market lost and a big part of Honda's past legacy. Square out the trunk opening and make it practical fer haulin' couches around college. Nobody but a core group of Civic lovers (and I'm one) will ever consider it a 'luxury' or sports car' so why make five different versions? The exterior is not bad or perhaps better, actually, and the interior is dazzlingly space age with thankfully a few places left to toss crap. On second look it could be a new-car option if I was to buy one..but those blinkers are a future accident only waiting to happen.

Not much of a hatchback in my book, with that sloping roof line. Try a large dog crate or a piece of furniture in the hatch - FAIL!
Do the engines have timingbelts? That's another fail in my book. Sure will be interesting to buy a car in 10 years from now, not sure what I'll buy that still has a stick. At least it has that going for it! G |

Do the engines have timingbelts? That's another fail in my book. The Civic's 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine has a lightweight DOHC cylinder head that is made of low-pressure cast aluminum alloy. With exhaust passages cast directly into the cylinder head, the need for a traditional separate exhaust manifold is eliminated and the catalytic converter mounts directly to the cylinder head. A low-friction silent-chain drives dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. The cam drive is maintenance free throughout the life of the engine. To assist cooling and detonation resistance, the cylinder head has a cooling passage placed between each pair of exhaust valves. The combustion chamber shape and valve angles are optimized to help boost fuel efficiency and power. The included valve angle is 35 degrees, to decrease the surface-to-volume ratio of the combustion chambers and help create a flat, compact combustion chamber that minimizes unburned hydrocarbon emissions. The combustion chamber shape creates a compression ratio of 10.8:1, yet the engine still operates on regular unleaded fuel. The cylinder head features a high-tumble intake-port design. In combination with the combustion chamber and piston crown shape, the design's high level of airflow tumble helps create a homogenous fuel mixture for low fuel consumption and high airflow for high power output. The Civic's 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC® engine uses an advanced valve control system to combine high power output with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. The system combines dual VTC™ (Variable Timing Control™), which continuously adjusts the intake and exhaust camshaft phase, with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®), which changes valve lift, timing and duration of the intake valve opening. The "intelligent" portion of the system is its ability to continuously vary the timing of the intake and exhaust camshafts using variable valve timing control (VTC™). This helps increase power and provides a smoother idle (allowing idle speed to be reduced). The cam timing is varied based on input from sensors that monitor rpm, timing, throttle opening, cam position and exhaust air-fuel ratio. The result is increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Under certain conditions, the VTC™ can hold the intake valves open longer to allow a reverse airflow of intake air into the intake manifold.

We have a ‘16 touring Civic. It’s a great little car that gets 40 mpg just going to the golf club, church, grocery store, etc. Never been on a trip in it. Short comings IMO are rain sensor wipers are pathetic, touch screen audio system operation is substandard and electric P/S is notch’s. 1.5 liter turbo with a timing chain.

^^^ They addressed the notchy ps in the new car. My 2010 Fit is notchy also.
The info/tainment system has knobs for the main controls. (first thing I looked for..I hate the touch screens) https://hondanews.com/en-US/honda-automobiles/releases/release-53541be6030b25a47a2899aba12aa1f6-2022-honda-civic-sedan-press-kit

So Steve, are you interested in it?
It's a shame they sloped the roofline down like a sedan. Wasted all that potential space, when comparing it with a Fit or an old Civic hatch. |

I might be...my Fit will roll over 250k miles in a couple weeks and I'll need to replace it sometime. I'll prob wait for the SI..if I do. I'll miss the cargo space of the Fit, but the Civic will still have much more space than my Prelude does. (I hardly ever drive it)
