German plastic wire connector

I need to extend the multifunction wire on my M3, because I added a steering wheel extension.

My options are:

Don’t worry about the multi function.

Splice in four wires.

Buy a new one for $100.

Buy a used one for $50.

Because it’s hidden by the airbag, I’ll probably splice in the wires, but before I did, I was looking for plastic connectors, so that I could make a nice looking extension.

My Googlefu is weak and there’s 1 billion type of connectors. How can I narrow it down to one that works? I need a male and female of the picture below.

Looks like a 4 pin JST connector.

Why not just extend what you have? You just need four wires, some shrink tube and a soldering iron.
Snip the wires about 3 inches from the plug and go from there.

The cloth tape is easily available as well. I use the Tesa brand.

I am guessing, but it looks like you want part number 61318372918.

I would go wander the junkyard and see if I could find the part.

That’s strange. The one I found was almost $100 and the one you have is half that price. Since it’ll be hidden inside the steering wheel, I’ll probably go ahead and just extend it by splicing/soldering in some wires.

Use heat shrink connectors. Use smooth crimpers. Coat with liquid electrical 'tape' if anything is exposed.

My only concern is they are Al instead of Cu like the wire.
For low-load applications that shouldn't be a problem.

Or solder the wire directly and use separate shrink tube.

I have some connectors that have solder in them. With the heat, they melt the solder and then shrink to fit.
