That didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of it.

The same can be said for Odysseus.

Suspension of Disbelief is just that. Relax and enjoy the movie.
Terv makes a solid argument that the JW franchise supports. It was a stand alone pulp novel, comic type of film that everyone that went to see it expected. To my knowledge there was not an author that got crapped on. It is its own franchise.

Yep, still
Have those from back in the day. I was reading the Hobbit and LOTR in 5th grade. Many of my classmates weren’t.

A couple of years ago I was working on several sites for the Canadian Dept of Defence. In Nova Scotia I found a coffee shop/ used book store. I spent a lot of my Sunday’s there (working 6/10s). Let’s just say that a lot of my ‘souvenirs’ were original André Norton sci fi books that I had never read. Reading them today, they are so simple/quaint but satisfying. It’s not like reading Heinlein and realizing how prescient he was. Man that dude was scary in his forward thinking.

I started The Last Wish from the The Witcher Series yesterday. Played the game, watched season 1 on Netflix, now going to read the books.

Near the end of this trailer you get a very brief look at Liet Kynes.

I've never been able to use audio books.. Don't know what that is, maybe a focus thang..

I had heard that Witcher was a decent read,,

I also have quite a few of the original Piers Anthony Xanth series. Love the play on words used in those. Baz would love them since the alternate world is shaped a lot like Florida.

When it comes to fantasy worlds it is not so much a suspension of disbelief but a substitution of belief that makes an enjoyable experience for the willing audience.
Within a franchise that was built on this it is very bad writing to require suspension of disbelief within that own substituted belief set.

Matter of finding the right person reading it to you.

"The Moon's a Balloon" for example, David Niven reads David Niven

I don't think you can watch the doc on Jodorowsky's attempt to make Dune, (It's fantastic and fascinating) but here is part one (Part 1) of a freebie YouTube series on the various iterations of the story.

The thumbnail is misleading.

I had to think about this one a bit.
It's impossible to have representation of all our divides on one main character in a film or game.
Pursuing intersectional representation is fruitless endeavor that will always leave someone(s) out if we measure it.

Why not measure inclusivity as being allowed to be in the audience, or play the game.

Most of the entertainment I follow these days is either weapons related or Japanese.
Neither one are "me" as I don't own weapons and I'm not Japanese.
But I still get to watch, or play the game.
I'm included even if someone like me isn't ever seen on the screen.

I just watched Dune with my family.

Wow... What a spectacle. The best movie I've seen in some time.

A lot to say but I'll keep it short. First, you are doing yourself a great disservice if you don't see Dune in IMAX with equal sound system. It will win awards based on sound and score alone. It just won't be the same movie otherwise and it's entirely worth the trouble if getting to the movies is difficult.

Obviously the story itself is one of literature's all time greats but it's hard to describe just how well it was told. From acting to cinematography to score to set... everything was brilliantly directed by Denis Villeneuve. What's funny is there a scene or rather a sound, that reminds you of Arrival, another one of his films, instantly. And there's a little Blade Runner in there too.

You are engaged the entire 2.5 hours. I expect II will be even better.

I saw it again last night... Fantastic in every way and again truly the best movie I've seen in a very long time.

There are just so many details and honestly I can't fault it.
I haven't read the books but there are a lot of people who are happy at how the original story has been portrayed.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't do well at the Oscars.

I thought it was a hell of a good movie. Cinematography was amazing, every character but one was spot-on and while the one that I thought didn’t do a great job is a very, very major one, it wasn’t a bad job - actually you have to have read the book to see what wasn’t great.

Watched on HBO with big screen and projector. Will be going to see in theater too.
