He took allota szxhit, too. I know ‘cuz I gave him tons of it.

Webby had already began to take things less seriously around here awhile back. Once I got closer to figuring out his game he became MUCH more palatable.

Smart guy, for sure.

Crowbob 10-10-2021 01:36 PM

IMO, it’s completely plausible that he’s pwning us. Well not us pacifically but everyone. His ducks may have finally aligned to his liking and he went dark according to plan.

Jeff Higgins 10-10-2021 02:00 PM

What terrible news. I hope that whatever took him, he did not suffer. 67 is just far too young.

I hope Randy has found his peace. He seemed very troubled. Most of us join, and remain active on forums such as this, to meet people, share information, maybe debate some of our politics and beliefs, but mostly to make friends. A very few people seem to delight in antagonizing others, for whatever reasons they may have. No interest in even trying to make any friends, with virtually every post being some kind of a snide, snarky attack on someone. I'll never understand why someone would participate in a community like this if that is all they want out of it. Doing everything imaginable to alienate others, lose their respect, insult them, and so forth. Unfortunately, Randy seemed to delight in acting that way. I'll never understand that. Hanging out in a relatively tightly knit community just to insult, berate, and belittle many of its members. Most of its members, actually. I just don't get it.

Does anyone know if he had a family? He never mentioned a wife, children, or anything at all about anything personal like that. Even the obituary doesn't mention anything. It would be nice to be able to send flowers, or a card, or some form of condolences.

Well, as the Irish would say, "his troubles are over". May he rest in peace.

manbridge 74 10-10-2021 04:25 PM

The antagonizing part is certainly accurate. He was convinced my screen name was a homosexual term via Urban Dictionary which he used as a source for defining many words/things.

What scientist in his right mind would ever use Urban Dictionary?? Of course most science these days is highly politicized “science” having nothing to do with the original word.

When disagreeing with a guys response that they must’ve, “saw it on a white supremacy” website also got a little tedious...

As well from, “Seasquirt”, etc.

Interesting thread.

look 171 10-10-2021 05:07 PM

Political crap aside (weboth see some thing differently). He seems to be ok with good head on his shoulders when not talking about politics. I am still wondering if that's really him? Hope he's doing well, laughing at this thread. If not, RIP, Randy.

Aurel 10-10-2021 05:18 PM

I had noticed Rwebb and Thor66 stopped posting exactly at the same time on Aug. 28th., and I 99.9% knew they were the same person. RIP Randy, and your unhinged alter ego.

Below is his self penned bio on 914 World. I believe JP refers to JP Stein who I haven’t seen around for a while either. Rwebb had been confused with another Randy in the thread…

Yow! First Thx for pointing out that this guy is not me, and for alerting me to this thread. I am the Randy Webb in Eugene Oregon who bought JP's 911 (now getting a 3.2L BTW) and often posts on Pelican and Rennlist (usually along the lines of skeptical scientist type stuff on technical matters) - (I'm a scientist (for the last few decades) and a lawyer too (specializing in protecting endangered species).

Now. I don't know that guy. He is not a relative, etc. Also, he should lose the right to use this fine name....
-

Some friendly advice (and I'm not acting as a nybody's lawyer here, OK) - buy via credit card and refuse to pay if you don't get the goods. It it's already too late for that, then contact the Consumer Protection office of the state the guy's business is in. You can try a BBB complaint also. The FBI and cops won't do anything.

The only other option is to file against him in court. If it's a small claim, then you'd probably have to file in his home state. State laws differ but in Orygun a small claim goes up to $5,000. That may not work for you - but maybe you have a friend who could help and that lives in his state.

Good luck.

J. P. died a long time ago.

pmax 10-10-2021 05:44 PM

Rant on.

If someone knows the guy and the details, post an obituary if you would like to.

These speculative posts and commenting on someone who may or may not be still around isn't cool.

Rant off.

Randy would love it tho ;)...

I stand by everything I've posted... (edited to remove a comment I regret making public)

RIP (again) Randy... you will be missed.

Like the abbreviated obituary in the very first post of this thread?

Hmmm... So you never talk about deceased relatives? Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, etc.? We are very much a "family" here, of sorts, even if largely dysfunctional and bickering much of the time. It doesn't mean we don't care about one another. I think most of us would drop everything and rush to one another's aid at a moment's notice, in spite of our differences expressed on this forum. I would hope you guys would remember me, and even talk about me, after I'm gone. Of course I would deny everything, but feel free to talk...

pmax 10-10-2021 07:45 PM

^^^ This is a call out thread not an obituary !

I’m not going to RIP rwebb or conclude that he has indeed passed. There is more than one Randy Webb in the Eugene-Springfield area and more with first names for which Randy could be a familiar.

That said, I like rwebb very much. He and I occasionally PM’d about biotechnology topics, including Covid drugs, and he seemed to have a significant scientific background in the field. I had the impression he had some connection with the U of O but never asked. We also talked about Vanagons. He gave up on PPOT - just like the blathering drove off other actual scientists who found themselves being outshouted by people who got their virology degrees from U of Facebook. If he is still with us, I doubt he’s lurking and chortling over the reports of his demise. And if he’s not, then I imagine he’s in Heaven looking for a Vanagon mechanic. And we know all of them are in Hell.

sc_rufctr 10-10-2021 07:58 PM

If Randy was still alive IMO he would have chimed in by now.

- He could never stay away from this place for long.

Very well said Jeff. There are some people here that I would talk crap to online but wouldn't hesitate to buy a beer or beverage when meeting in person. It's a forum for chrissakes, people need to ease up. We all need to remember we are all human and love Porsches.

But the "gun play" and tussling is fun at times.Just don't take it so serious.

manbridge 74 10-10-2021 09:16 PM

Pardon the skeptical sauce but what kind of scientist is “run off” by blather?

Or uses the Urban Dictionary?

Yeah that's for sure. Fast-a-shell was even PM-ing people. After the permananet ban he would still text me with some snide remarks from time to time. had to put my foot down. Haven't heard from him in a while.

Well said Jeff,

I have known and know people in real life like that. The people I know are severely insecure for one reason or another. Some of these people are very successful but were traumatized as children and still carry the insecurity. I believe it is their way of compensatin.

Whatever has become of him may he find peace and happiness.

berettafan 10-11-2021 04:26 AM

Sad but coming for all of us.

Makes me feel old and vulnerable. I’m sure his family could care less what an Internet forum has to say. At least I’d hope that’s the case. He’s been called an attorney so not sure how much worse anyone can say about a man.

Zeke 10-11-2021 06:58 AM

This has turned into a real sewer of a thread as the majority do. If Pelican lets this stand as it is, then the foregone conclusion that Pelican knows about, condones and operates this kind of forum is validated.
God knows I've tread to tell them this is not a good model for a business to known by.

Now we'll see if that's who they really are once and for all.

KFC911 10-11-2021 07:10 AM

^^^ With all due respect to Z-man, PPOT hasn't been moderated since DD disappeared, and PARF bs has returned to OT. I guarantee that everyone on this thread that has or had an issue with Randy was due to the sewer that PARF is... and he was guilty too. There are about a dozen folks who live for that crap... and they seem to think this board is an appropriate place to do so. I don't get it .... and never will.

recycled sixtie 10-11-2021 07:11 AM

I know many of you don't like Facebook but they have a provision to name a friend who can secure or receive instructions in the event of the fb member passing. Makes sense to me.

peppy 10-11-2021 07:14 AM

RIP RWebb!

manbridge 74 10-11-2021 11:02 AM

De mortuis nil nisi bonum??

Okay.... but it stems from an ancient taboo and humanity is currently busy rejecting them.

john70t 10-11-2021 11:40 AM

Whatever the venue, whatever the topic, any group of protagonists needs at least one antagonist.
Groupthink is an early conclusion.

It's not an easy row to hoe. Uphill battle. He did his best regardless.

David 10-11-2021 12:50 PM

Very sad to hear was lost another Pelican and sounds like we lost Angela and Randy within days or even hours of each other.

RIP Randy.

speeder 10-11-2021 01:29 PM

And both in the same part of Oregon.

fintstone 10-11-2021 01:33 PM

The same people that complain about PARF and people that post in PARF also posting here in OT seem to be the ones who always try to stir things up...and the same folks that make political posts here and throw a fit when there is a response. Who is really "ruining" this thread? Maybe if some of you would quit trying to settle old scores in OT, things just might get better. Why exactly does the fact tat someone has a different opinion seen to bring out the worst in some of you? BTW, some of the folks you fellows complain about were here far before you (or at least a very long time) and helped built this site (including Webb). If you don't like other's posts, feel free to respond or ignore...but just stop the whining. Stop asking the people that run this site to remove anyone you disagree with. Lots of folks disagree with you and maybe you would fall into the same boat if they did...they can't remove everyone. PP is one of the few places on the web where the management allows free speech...why are some so eager to change that?

Webb handled himself just fine when responding to others here and needed (nor likely wanted) pity or help from anyone. He like to debate and did so...often stirring the pot to help generate that debate....and yes, he had multiple personalities here...and that was well known. It is no secret and mentioning it is not like discussing an illegitimate child or a drinking habit. He did it, he liked to do it and was probably proud of his posts. Pretending otherwise is just nonsense. Lets just be adults for a change.

RIP Webb.

drcoastline 10-11-2021 01:51 PM

Was he also thor66? Saw in another thread.

Shuie 10-11-2021 01:56 PM

oh no. very sad if true. He is one of a handful of people that I will always remember as a fixture from the time I joined. I'm sure he was here helping people in the tech forum long before I ever registered. He has always been as OG Pelican as it gets to me. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends if this true. RIP.

(could be wrong though)

Hopefully he is too busy in his new garage to bother posting here. He had a few good arguments well worth considering.

MRM 10-11-2021 05:25 PM

I think it was answered in a post above. Fastashell was Ziggy and Randy didn’t appear to be Fastashell. My take was that Ziggy and Thor were the same person. I thought Thor was Madcorgi at first, but after a while it was clear that he either wasn’t or he was very good at maintaining a consistent alternate personality, including word choice and claimed expertise.

I don’t often agree with Fint, but he is spot on here. Randy gave as good as he got, but what he gave was in response to what he got and never disproportionate to what he received.

My sense, after reading him for a bit, was that he was exactly what he claimed to be, regardless of how unlikely it seemed to be. He did graduate from law school and did at least clerk for a bit and he really was a published research scientist. He might have been a professor, I can’t tell. Even MadPuo figured out how to be an adjunct to some Executive MBA night program. Randy wad probably at least that much of a professor.

He must have taken a liking to me at some point, because he always went out of his way to compliment me when we posted on the same thread. I genuinely liked him too, and was puzzled by the fur that could fly around him.

Racerbvd 10-11-2021 05:38 PM

We somehow came to an unspoken agreement and I think, mutual respect for each other. After that, it was hard to dislike him and from his multiple identities, the way he responded, I think he felt the same way. Did we agree on just about anything, no, but could we have still gotten along and done shots together, I think so. Again, there were multiple times he responded to something I posted that he could have been much harsher, but wasn't. It is because of those interactions that I feel we had a mutual respect. He was one of the few people that I completely disagreed with that I still looking forward to having a drink with. As others have said, we may not have agreed with him, but he kept us on our toes. RIP Randy and I hope it was painless.

fastfredracing 10-11-2021 05:50 PM

I felt my interaction with Randy was similar to what Byron stated above, although Thor took a cheap shot or 2 at me .
Either way, longstanding member here, much respect, and godspeed RWebb .

Yes. RIP.

We need to take the time to do this for each other as there is no mechanism to identify ourselves (as dead) when we pass.

Grady sent me a text responding to a question I had. He mentioned getting lit up with radiation. He went silent for a while and I PM'd Wayne and asked if he knew anything. He did not. A couple of months later he was gone. Surely 100+ peeps would have known Grady had passed.

Just sayin' if a pal falls silent, dig in and find out. We are not all Grady Clay.
