The thing about these is they are low noise.

It irritates me also to see Ebikes being used as Vespas. I pedal 90% of the time on mine, but I bought my 29 MTB to be a nice bike to ride with full suspension, and dual disc brakes. The 500W 36V front hub motor allows me to take it anywhere and still get home.

This allows me to get out there, and get some excerciise even with my new pacemaker, and reduced lung capacity.

A buddy of mine just moved to Bainbridge Island and bought a Rad Rover to cruise the island. He loves it and probably rides it much more and farther than he would a non-electric so it seems a win.

I have to wonder why some people think their ebikes have to have huge fat slow knobby tires like the one shown. That thing will be exhausting to pedal "manually" up a grade or for any significant distance on the flat. The rider will be required to use e-boost because he's chosen a machine that is a crappy "bicycle".

And don't get me started on yahoos on 2000 watt e-Mountain-bikes throwing rooster tails. Ride a real dirt bike or go home.

Eventually, as the power race extends, I think ebikes will need to be sent to traffic lanes like any other powered two-wheeler (motorcycle, scooter, moped) because otherwise you're going to have excessive speed differentials in narrow bike lanes, and getting plowed by a 70 lb ebike and 200 lb rider moving at 25 mph isn't a lot better than getting plowed by a motorbike.
^^^^ This

I saw a fat kid on a powered scooter the other day getting around with no physical effort. I'm almost 60 and love to ride my non powered mountain bike. I'm fine if a powered bike gets some old dude out and moving his body and having fun. If some 30 year old yells "on your left" as I'm grinding up a hill it's going to be real hard not to stick my leg out and knock him over. I won't, but I'll want to. All of this is going to make one of my favorite animated movies come true.

I find e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards very dangerous for drivers now.

I've seen people come zooming up on my RHS in traffic all the time now. Someone will get hurt or killed by a car turning right...

An E-bike is a step up in effort from a four wheeled car that is just easy to sit in and drive around.

E-bikes rising in popularity are a change to being physically more active rather than less active.

I ride a regular road bike most days. I did think about building an e-bike but decided against it once I realised most of the parts in the kit are made in China. That wasn't the only reason but a big part of the decision.

Anyway I know a middle aged couple that bought two e-bikes and bragged about it on Faceplant. Lots of photos shared of their first ride and now just a few weeks later both of the bikes are sitting in their garage unused.

Fine, if you need one, and many do. It's great if it gets a non active/aged/disabled person on the trail and more active.

My point about the Wall-E future is the already overweight 10 year old who now "rides" an e powered scooter or bike instead of walking or pedaling. That is a bad outcome and waste of the resources it takes to make the batteries and electronics. That is not green nor good for anyone.

I agree it's not Green but predictably the manufacturers are selling it as Green.

Just now back from a 15 mile ride on the Propella.
20 mph west wind.....no problem.
Drop down to 5th gear and shift the assist to 4 or 5......away we go!
With the wind....the assist is off.
Love it.

We love our E-bikes. Take them with us in the motorhome. Did alittle over 50 miles on them yesterday.

The thing I like about the e-bike (Propella) the most is ....the power is there when you want it.
You don't have to use it, but is sure comes in handy for hills and wind.

We have an e-bike vendor in our building, feel free to ask questions, I'll relay them. I might even be able to get someone a small discount, they owe me...
He has bikes that are class 2 (or class 3, I dunno), 28mph capable, 65+ mile range. That's the highest speed before you become a scooter and need to be on the road.

Easy peasy. In EU, any ebike must have PAS sensor and provide less than 250W boost up to maximum 25km/h.

Anything more than that means it is a motorized vehicle that needs insurance, proper driving lixense etc. Theoretically, riding 1kW bike means riding a motorbike without turn signals = Hefty fine and possibly losing driving license.

When will there be a pro race series for E-Bikes? You know it's coming.

Y'know.

A solar panel and an E-bike can make a great combo if you're in a remote area and what to cover 10-15 miles quickly every few days.

I have bad knees, stopped cycling because of it.
Now have an Orbea Ebike

above 25kph the motor does nothing and my average is 27kph..
the motor is mostly used to start me off and , get up hill and for headwind.

OP' buddy's bike is butt ugly tho.

I assembled an e-bike for a neighbor last week (X-Treme Rubicon 48). He has heart issues and broke a leg earlier in the year. He hasn't really even been able to walk for exercise. The bike has been life-changing for him, mentally and physically. The hardest part for him is simply getting on & off the bike - it's very heavy and cumbersome.

I'd consider one in the future if I had health issues that prevented me from riding a pedal bike. Thank god I don't need one.

Without knowing your knee problem (or your riding style) I thought cycling was good for the knees, being low impact and all?
