What was the approximate size of the mini boulder? Toaster oven?

You are lucky is was in vehicle with that much sidewall on the tires. Imagine hitting that same rock in some rubber band sidewall profile tire common on many cars. I saw a pickup the other day that had 24 inch wheels and tires that had almost no sidewall at all. It looked really stupid, but it was someone's dream wheel and tire setup.

The good news is it did not make you crash and total the car, and cause injuries to you.

Yeah, I see that around here occasionally, and it always baffles me. What's really crazy is that I've seen it on duallies.

Another reason why I will only put OEM wheels on my Tundra.

Thinking back my mind tells me that the rock was huge . Really though, it was big enough to destroy my rim and almost lose control but not big enough to rip off the spindle. I think the tire is ok but I’ll find out after I get the replacement rim and have the tire mounted. Alignment too!

99Toyota Tacoma. I didn’t have time to react at all. I was watching the oncoming car that was passing a camper that was just moving out of my lane. I looked straight ahead and there was the Boulder right there. I was going maybe 45-50 mph downhill. I often wonder how this trucks life will end. It has hit three deer, it has been stolen and it’s been rear ended on Hi way 680. Insurance gave me 4 grand with the buyback and said it was now salvage title. My title has not changed and this was 7 years ago. 424,000 miles with original air compressor, alternator, power steering pump ,starter and transmission. Only replaced battery, brakes, timing belts and water pumps and tires.

If you had been driving a 935 the car would have gone under that boulder!

Isn't that a hole in your tire?

Been there.

The same thing happened to me a few years back. Luckily it was with my daily driver and not my 911.

Adjacent to the bend in the rim was a good size crack.

Bugs, you were definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place. Good skills not being tempted to swerve and have a bigger disaster on your hands.

It may be worth phoning around a few wreakers to see if you can buy a single wheel. It could be cheaper than a fix if that is even possible.

I was just curious... wasn't doubting you by any stretch.

But how huge was it? Roughly the size of a concrete block?

I drove by the spot where I hit the rock and there it was. I knocked just off the road. It’s a little bigger then a basketball. I couldn’t take a picture because it’s a twisty two lane road with very few pull out areas.

I did just that. $45 each but I have to drive almost 100 miles round trip to pick it up. $75 delivered. Delivery will be next Thursday.

That's no boulder ... what do you mean you can't avoid hitting it ?

Two lane winding road, one side rocky (where the rock came from) hillside with a channel for drainage. The other lane is oncoming traffic with a cliff. No where to go but straight.
