Wow, that was a pretty big process failure.

Let's wait for the facts of the matter.

More info has come out. They are using the email I posted earlier from our union rep to confirm it was a live round but I don't think there's been real confirmation on that yet.

They also detail some of the safety issues we practice on set, I'm not sure where things broke down but someone is in big trouble. Sad situation all around.

If firing into the camera directly, you place a sheet of Lexan around the camera and those behind it, with a lens hole in the Lexan. When you do close up filming of a gun being loaded with what appears to be a real round complete with a bullet and casing, its normal to have a BB inside the casing so the armorer can shake it and verify its a dummy round. Inconceivable that a real round got loaded.

Apparently there was an armorer on set. They'll be lucky to just lose their job.

i kinda recall this incident. i think they had to do a close up of the revolver so they put dummy rounds into the firearm. so the audience can see the bullet in the front on shot of the gun.

then they took out the dummies and put in blanks. but the dummy round bullet came out of the dummy case and stayed behind in the cylinder only to have a blank put in behind it. the blank firing pushed out the bullet.

i think this is what i remembered. been a long time, and i could be full of chit.

No, that's exactly what happened but one of the dummy rounds still had a live primer that pushed the bullet out of the casing and lodged it in the barrel. Later the blank finished the job.

It sure sounds like the Armorer dropped the ball on this one. Why a live round was anywhere near the prop trailer much less the set is beyond me.

Maybe scene called for actor to fire the gun when it was pointed in direction of the camera? What a terrible thing.

^ agreed, edited my thoughts.

My heartfelt condolences to everyone involved. What a mess.

I used to do graphics for a lot of low budget action/horror movies. They’d mostly use toy guns. The budgets were that low. A guy skilled in After Effects can fake muzzle flash, a shell casing flying out and even make the slide move back.

I had to tell a director once that the only thing I couldn’t fix was the actors lips going “pew pew pew”.

Ha I've seen those flicks on Netflix...

Too cheap to hire a real armorer. Wonder if the production’s insurance company knew there were real guns and live rounds on set.

Baldwin was a producer. He will have to answer for these things.

Crowbob 10-22-2021 02:16 PM

I wonder if a disgruntled person put in a live round before they walked off in a labor dispute.
