We will be here Nick when you get back Take a break. It's just a message board.
Everyone knows what the other regulars think at this point.

Sure beats spending more time arguing with friends.

Sad to see you go, Nick, I hope you reconsider.

sc_rufctr 11-20-2021 02:00 AM

Bye Nick... Have a good one mate. I'm sure you have your reasons.

tabs 11-20-2021 02:56 AM

Just dont let the door hit you on the azz as you leave..

Just remember when you are gone this forum will carry on..

Now that he is gone lets get back to partying on..

astrochex 11-20-2021 03:57 AM

Lovely to see how polarized the responses are to news of cab’s possible departure.

Sad to see especially those that wish him ill.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-20-2021 04:01 AM

If you leave Nick, the terrorists win.

I'll probably get banned for posting this so if I am, if someone can ask Eric @ PP to unban me, that would be appreciated.

Nick is leaving because he did his job. He moved a troll-infested thread to PARF, Karens on the thread complained to the manager, that manager agreed with their complaints, posted as such on the thread in question and moved it back to OT.

What would you do in this situation?

URY914 11-20-2021 04:15 AM

Can't blame him. This place has become a downer.

Chocaholic 11-20-2021 04:51 AM

He had become a BBS junkie in recent months. It’s a car forum....relax. Completely meaningless. As forums go, this one is pretty tame. When you start taking this stuff seriously...or spending more time here than you do outside...reevaluate. I’ve been here since 2000 (changed from my real name in 06] and have never found this place in need of significant moderation. Those with thin skin are perhaps another story.

Hopefully that’s what he did (re-evaluate). Arguing in every thread while brandishing the moderator badge was a bad sign. Had hoped it would temper on its own in due time. Paul gets it. I don’t think Nick did. Life is too short.

Gogar 11-20-2021 05:17 AM

I think if you want to be a mod you can't really be an active poster.

recycled sixtie 11-20-2021 05:53 AM

Nick you give up too easily. There will be a void in your life and you will be back.

Sooner or later 11-20-2021 06:20 AM

I don't know the complete back story.

it seems to me he feels his authority was stepped on. He moved a thread to PARF. Another mod moved it back to OT. He made a post voicing his displeasure about the move back. Shortly after that this thread was started. I don't know of the communication that took place between he and the other mod.

An active poster can be a mod. You do need to hold yourself to the highest standards. I was a mod on another very active board for three years. I was an active poster. I caught crap from time to time from both sides. None of the crap was because I was an active poster. Some thought I was too lenient. Some thought I was too strict. No big deal.

The board lost it's server (along with several other football related sites) and the folks that "owned" the board decided to throw in the towel and not start over from scratch. And here I am.

KFC911 11-20-2021 06:44 AM

Have no clue what happened on the PARF side... don't know, don't care really, but I can read between the lines. Once again, another one gone .... due to PARF bs. Paul and Nick both tried, DD tried, Z-man is busy with life, but tries..... some revel in the bs and think all is fine with little to no moderation ....

Most just walk away shaking their heads .... sadly.

I nominate SOL and Gogar to try :D

One isn't an active poster, and one might have the desire and skill set ;).

I wonder if last weekend's 2 day+ outage was by design? DD has warned us.... just my .02 .... hope I'm wrong.

GH85Carrera 11-20-2021 06:48 AM

Sad to see him go. He tried and I guess the massive paycheck was not enough to keep him here.

It must be hard to be given a task like moderator, and have the big boss override a decision you made in good faith.

afterburn 549 11-20-2021 07:15 AM

I have always thought of Parf as pretty much self-policing .

If someone continuously attacks, it does not take a lot of energy to just press the button to ban Is does it?
Why let one's self get involved with the fray if you are a Mod?
Simple.

If it had to do with moving an OT thread to PARF (and attempting to "cleanse" it to meet his standards)...it seems that it is once again OT BS, not PARF BS.

It amazes me that when a thread does not turn out well in OT, it is blamed on PARF. It is like blaming your neighbors because you don't keep your own home clean. PARF does not send problem threads to OT. Just the opposite. Did it never occur to you that it might be the folks in OT and their inability to accept that others may have different opinions than...and then work incessantly to punish those that they disagree with?

Every thread in PARF and OT has a title. One can choose to click on that title or not. Once in the thread, one has a choice of posting or not. One can post their opinion/ideas and let them stand on their merit (or not). All the OT butt hurt and name calling is what hurts OT, not PARF. Especially threads that attack everyone that posts in PARF, regardless of who really was responsible for the transgression. PARF is doing just fine and is much less dysfunctional than OT. If one doesn't like it, they can just stay away.

javadog 11-20-2021 09:24 AM

There really wasn’t anything wrong with the thread he moved to PARF. No idea why he did it, other than he could. He deleted some content in the thread, no idea exactly what, since it was deleted. Someone jokingly asked if a moderator was needed. One eventually showed up and found nothing amiss and decided to move the thread back to OT. Cabmando took offense at this and made a slightly provocative comment to the moderator in response, which has since been deleted. I got the impression at the time that he was pissed that someone was perhaps questioning his moderating decisions and actions. If they weren’t happy with what he was doing, they could just take his moderating capabilities away, seemed to be his opinion…

I thought it was much ado about nothing, from start to finish. The thread in question was what about Covid vaccines, which he seemed to be unusually passionate about lately.

Maybe he just found this place to be a useless time suck, something I also contemplate from time to time.

nah...

That's like saying Wayne should not have posted here. He obviously was the biggest contributor here for years.

I like Nick, and sparing with him... When he comes back I hope he sees this...

You can if you keep your moderator task in the background.
But maybe that’s saying the same thing.

Agreed, I don’t know if they discussed it beforehand, but that would be a dealbreaker for me too. Undermining a colleague’s authority in public is a dickmove IMO. (If that is what happened)
