I was just complaining for fun, I knew exactly the "type" you were describing as far as having a bunch of extraneous (and often non-scout) badges on there. Lucky for me I'm lazy and suck at sewing

One of the most decorated solders in Russian military history. Think Alvin York and Audie Murphy. Combined.

Remembering that the Red Army lost something like 3 times as many men as their enemies (and approximately 20 times as many as the US Army) but still won, one cannot help but have respect.

I served (USN), have a bit of fruit salad for the uniform, and am old enough to have known some guys who were "in the sh**" during Vietnam, but WW2 Eastern Front... damn. One battle - Stalingrad - had between 1.3 and 1.8 million dead. Oh, and neither side was all that interested in taking prisoners.

Kinda puts that sheriff's ego in perspective, huh?

BTW, a good new book on the political background and initial military phases of WW2 Eastern Front is "Operation Barbarossa: The History of a Cataclysm" by Jonathan Dimbleby.

Military service ribbons are fabric, not hard material like the ones on his chest. Those are the awards listed on his bio and it seems silly to wear them like that.

Then a brand new Lt. arrived, and had to leave his mark. The Lt. had earned his rank in his mind, and he wanted to strut his stuff. So he ordered that all staff would wear Dress Uniforms the next day. All the enlisted men rolled their eyes, but sure enough all showed up in Dress Uniform. The issue was my friends buddy was a Medal Of Honor recipient. He was typical of most true heroes, and never talked about it.

So the new Lt. opens the door and a Sargent announces him, and he struts down the men in review. Then he comes to the Medal Of Honor recipient, and realized he has to salute the medal wearer. It almost killed him to salute a lowly corporal. He never tried the dress uniform bit again. My buddy said they all laughed hard at the bar that night about it.
