adobe wouldn't let me quit

That's the most annoying thing I come across. I am no computer wizard, but how is it that I can't quit it, exit out of it and locks me in until I sign in and I have to do it with Google or email and who knows what else. It keeps on going. It keeps popping up. Restarting the computer will make it go away but it comes back within an hour or two.

How to get rid of Adobe Flash Player update pop-up?

Hold the Windows Key and press “R” to bring up the “Run” dialog box.
Type “services.msc“, then press “Enter“.
Double-click the “Adobe Flash Player Update Service“.
For the “Startup type“, choose “Disabled“.
Select “OK” and close the “Services” window.

I don't have the problem and don't have that service but I was able to get to the services.msc box and detail no problem.

I got it from a Google search.

Adobe is really spammy stuff. Remove it and find an alternative.

Restart computer, go to launchpad, and drag anything Adobe to the trash.

Randy, what the heck does it do? If I dump, what's going happen to my files or are there programs I may need to run with Adobe?

FlashPlayer has been dead and gone for years ....

What the OP is experiencing is probably a license checker or updater for some other piece of Adobe software.

Good luck!

(yet another reason to not use non-Free software)

Adobe is like Photoshop, and pdf reader- stuff like that. Your browser will usually read .PDFs

What happened to the OP just happened to me...I am on a Mac.

Thanks for the advice, Adobe is gone and the files are read as you guys described.

Any recommendations beyond that?

I am a licensed user of Photoshop. I have to use it for my business.

Adobe PDF reader was a great free program, but no longer. I uninstalled as my PDF reader, and use my Firefox browser. If I have a form too fill out, I just open it in Photoshop and I can do anything, even add in signatures. Then save as a PDF and bam.

I own a very old version of Photoshop that comes in handy from time to time; unfortunately it'll never be upgraded and I have to keep an ancient iMac alive in order to use it.
Same story with a decades-old version of Illustrator.

As to Acrobat, it's a great program for preparing documents to send electronically or to print. I don't need it often, but I'm really glad I know how it works when I do.
