SSA...COLA bring it on!

Finally...a raise. 5.9% starting in January.
An extra $88/month for food/beer and what-not!

(social security admin cost of living allowance)

jcommin 12-07-2021 09:29 AM

big increase - not complaining either.

stevej37 12-07-2021 09:34 AM

Been retired for 8 years....first (significant) raise in that time.
Thank you to all who are still working! (keep it up)

Don't forget to factor in the big jump in Medicare costs

stevej37 12-07-2021 09:43 AM

^^^ I have Priority Health and the rate has dropped in half last month.
Have heard nothing of Medicare going up.

For most people Part B is going up from $148.50 to $170.10.

stevej37 12-07-2021 09:50 AM

^^^ It's deducted from my SS check...so I'll see it if it happens. No word of it yet.

stevej37 12-07-2021 09:59 AM

stevej37 12-07-2021 11:18 AM

fintstone 12-07-2021 11:50 AM

It doesn't even cover the terrible inflation of last year..

stevej37 12-07-2021 11:52 AM

^^^ fftt...what?
Inflation here was non-noticeable last year.
Are you still working??

stevej37 12-07-2021 12:23 PM

I'll tip a few to those that are contributing to the SS cause. :D

stevej37 12-07-2021 12:50 PM

^^^
au contraire....I plan on as many years in retirement as working.
I'm almost a third of a way there.

Thank you for your ssa contributions.

stevej37 12-07-2021 01:24 PM

Nothing better than getting a check from the gov each month for having fun!
I wish I would have retired 20 years earlier.

gumby 12-07-2021 01:24 PM

My dad has been retired for 31 years...I hope to at least match and hopefuly surpass.

It's like your boss saying..."you've been doing a good job..we need to reward you"
Thank you!

jcwade 12-07-2021 02:10 PM

I wasn't even thinking about that since I don't get SSA.
But, now that I looked, RRB is getting a COLA too.
Hooray!

stevej37 12-07-2021 02:12 PM

stevej37 12-07-2021 02:19 PM

KFC911 12-07-2021 02:27 PM

Or a RC Cola .... and a Moonpie...

That's what I'm getting next year ... never figured I'd see either :)

stevej37 12-07-2021 02:32 PM

Is it anything like hairpie?

Could be worse. You could be 30 years younger and forced to pay into the ponzi scheme, knowing you will get nothing.

But it seems that there are less, and less of us out here working honestly for a paycheck, everyone has found their side hustle, and government aid.

KFC911 12-07-2021 02:46 PM

Southern health foods :D

Never had both together tho' .... songs and festivals keep the icons alive .... couldn't download 'em.

Gotta keep encouraging them...or they might quit. :)

stevej37 12-07-2021 03:01 PM

I'm getting tired from wondering how I want to spend the extra SS money.

Any suggestions?

SSI is a bought and paid for retirement benefit by the recipients. It's not a hustle.

However, I hear you loud and clear. I have seen more folks work their natural ass off for unemployment benefits with the Covid $$ kicker than I can shake a stick at.

Lying MF'rs they are.

Dude, I get over $100 extry at 5.9%. I don't even want to tell you how much.

Kinda thinking used Veyron.

stevej37 12-07-2021 03:10 PM

If no suggestions....my ss cola will go to Bell's Brewery.
A very worthwhile establishment.

^^^edit: dude..good on you!

I'd hire a 17 year old kid... (preferably one without a phone) to pick up walnuts :D

No basis for this projection.

We've heard the same story fifty years ago.

stevej37 12-07-2021 03:14 PM

^^^ KC
That's done for the season. Maybe to shovel snow???
