Oh, and who makes a good digital timer that I can plug surge protectors into so I can program it so all the little lights go off at night?
We have multiple surge protectors for my wife's computers to be plugged into. I got them working on only one monitor/keyboard/mouse, thanks to you guys, but now she's after me about all the lights that are on because the surge protectors are plugged in, even though nothing plugged into them is actually 'on'.
And no, getting down on the floor under the desk every night to shut them off is not an option. My knees won't take it.
She sent me a link to a protector with a mechanical timer on it, but reviews say they are noisy after a while so I know that won't work.
Seems to me there's a market for something made in America that is good quality and will last. Might not be as cheap as the junk made in China but at least you wouldn't have to replace it every couple of years or so.

I just covered the lights that bothered me with a piece of electrical tape.

The other thought is a surge protector with a remote on/off switch, but I think the still have status lights.

Yeah, I don't think that is gonna fly here.

I'm thinking some kind of timer I could plug the surge protector into so I could program the 'on time' for only daylight hours or something like that.

We have a couple that shut down after a while of no use.
Not cheap, but my wife feels it makes up for all the little night lights she has pugged into outlets. lol

Could you just wire the outlet to a light switch and turn it off as needed?

Other option might be one of those new smart home type outlets that you control by smart phone.

If it could only be that easy. I'll have to check into the outlets controlled by a smart phone. 'Course then I'm going to end up being the one who has to be smart enough to figure out how to use it.

Shifter, I was house sitting a friend's place to look after his cat. When I turned the lights off and went to bed there was a faint red/pink glow on the ceiling. It was a bit weird. Almost like a halo sort of a thing. I wasn't really scared. Well scared a bit, but not scared enough to not ask it for next Saturday's lotto numbers. I got up and turned the light on and it disappeared. Turned the light off and went to bed. There it was hovering over the bed again.

Sounds like you need a time clock or a lighting control panel. Don't ask me how to program them. I still can't program mine.

They make them that connect to your phone and can do all sorts of stuff, but I think they are all going to have some sort of status light still.

We install them at the service panel that protects the whole house. Not too much to install but worth every penny if and when you need it.

I've installed full house surge protectors but have used a couple of wall plug in style to add outlets were needed.

We use several of the mechanical style timers for Christmas lights throughout the house. We've never had any that made noise loud enough to be heard without getting right at it with your ear.
