Honda needs to park him for the race even if he gets the OK from the medics. He's been doing nothing but crashing all weekend long, and he's going to hurt himself or someone else overdriving the bike like he's been doing. That was terrifying.

Absolutely spot on. This was his 4th crash this weekend. IDK if his ego is writing checks that his body can't cash or it's just a bad, bad day at the office but he is not the same pilot as before.

edit: MM declared unfit with concussion.

screen capture but doesn't show you the very hard landing.

Marcs' double vision has returned. I'd say his championship drive is over. It may be that his career is over as well. His body just can't meet the demands of his riding style anymore. OTOH If he can change his style then maybe he can continue. It may also be that the changes Honda made to the bike combined with a new track conspired to raise a challenge he wasn't ready to meet.

I hope his close circle is counseling him on his choices now vs what his future could hold if he can't get his crashing under control.

Mohammad Ali's later years are a cautionary tale for this kind of repeat injury.

MM93 has nothing to prove, in his 7 or 8 yrs of MotoGP racing he was nearly impossible to beat. Not as well liked as Rossi, perhaps, but a champ in every way.

Here's hoping he calls it quits before it's too late.

He needs to do a Casey Stoner, retire while still there are hopes and a fully functional person.

upsscott 03-22-2022 06:28 PM

That was a brutal high side. Hate to see it.

What a ride by Marquez at COTA

Just watched it today, had a bad start went back to last, then scratched his way back to sixth at checkered flag. I kept holding my breath expecting a high side at any moment.

He seemed to have it all together today.

An amazing ride, especially since he used a soft rear tire.

javadog 04-10-2022 12:28 PM

He has that track down. It’s only the second time he hasn’t won it since they started the event in 2013.

herr_oberst 04-10-2022 01:25 PM

Boy, Aprilla came right back down to Earth. I wonder if this is the beginning of the Ducati domination that I expected at the beginning of the season?

javadog 04-10-2022 01:27 PM

Starting to look like it…

While I admire MMs skill I think that some of his risks are just too reckless. That head shake he had in turn 10 was right on the edge of control.

David 04-11-2022 09:25 AM

I've only been to one MotoGP race and it was the 2013 COTA race that MM won. I was really surprised by how far over the edge all the riders rode. TV doesn't do it justice.

I remember watching John Kosincski in Kansas on the TZ250 in the late 80's and being amazed by the black streaks he left from both tires in every turn as he almost lapped 2nd place. He was riding so far above everyone else.

Now fast forward to what I saw at the 2013 MotoGP where everyone in the field rides like I saw John ride that day. It really is spectacular in person.

MM has decided on a 4th arm surgery after tomorrow's race, effectively taking him out of the championship for this year (spoiler - he wasn't going to win the championship, he probably wasn't going to win a race.). He had a pretty nasty highside yesterday in qualifying (or practice, I can't remember), so I wonder if maybe there was more damage......
I'm hoping he (and everybody) has a safe race tomorrow. I don't think he's got many more hard impacts left in his career before he's permanently off the bike completely.

flatbutt 05-28-2022 10:13 PM

He came down HARD on that right shoulder from the high side. I don't know what goes through his head. Yes he's one of the best but going out that hard on a cold tire on a damp-ish track was just reckless.

flatbutt 06-04-2022 07:26 AM

MGP news has Marc recovering well after successful surgery. Obviously this season is done and frankly I have to think that some doubt and maybe even fear is creeping into the back of Marc's mind.
