Is Markie already the best rider the world has ever known or is he still working on that,
or will his never ending arm injury side track him for good.

Just curious. Sad to see Rossi gone, and I think maybe he stuck around a year or two too many. IMO

Not just an arm injury, he also has vision issues.

Outerworld-level skill and bravery, but I think he crashes too much to be considered the best ever.
If he's healthy this year, he's going to have to compete on a Honda that's been lacking for the last few seasons against 8 Ducatis which apparently now have the chassis to match the speed.

You're right about Rossi, but man he is a beloved character. Check out Graham Norton's interview with Vale. It's pretty good.

Yeah I heard something about vision, what's that about ?

A few years ago he crashed hard and started experiencing double vision. This was in his Moto2 days.
FF to 2021, he was riding around the hills on an enduro bike and crashed hard, got concussed and started experiencing double vision again - so much so that he had to forfeit the rest of the season. He hasn't been back on a motogp bike since while he heals up. He's expected to heal, there was talk that he might miss the first race? Maybe that's changed.

I was really looking forward to a healthy MM this season.

He can claim to be one of the best ever just based on how quickly he accomplished so much, but can he last as long and have as big an impact on the sport that Rossi did?

MM has done some remarkable things on the bike because he pushes so hard. He is lucky that he has the skill to recover but having control of your bike is essential.

I do wonder WTH he did to that arm that requires so much recovery time.

There are a lot of young guns coming up that are skilled and healthy. MotoGP requires physical and mental toughness that is beyond most people.

I think he tried to come back too soon after he broke his arm, and it never healed right.
In fact it got worse and worse over the next year or two. At least I think that's what happened. I could be wrong.

That’s about the size of it. He tried to come back after a week, which was a bad idea. The second surgery compromised the bone around the break to the extent that he had to have a third (8 hour) surgery, grafting bone from his hip to his arm.

He’s super fast but he’s also had the advantage of the fastest bike in many years, so I still don’t write him as highly as Valentino. Before this crash, I figured he would eventually get there, now I’m not so sure.

I thought that a good portion of his success was due to the Honda ride until he was hurt and out. Seeing that no one else was consistently at the front on the Honda I read between the lines that either a bike has been developed that only he can ride (i.e.; Stoner and Ducati) or he is a beast and riding around the bike's issues.
I'll hope he gets past the arm and vision issues and at least can live a long and bountiful life. If he gets to ride, that's a bonus.

Ana Carrasco may enter Moto 3. I honestly don't see any but the most extraordinary woman handling a MotoGP bike but this could be interesting.

Looks like Marquez has been cleared for testing when it starts in a week or so.

Interesting to see how that goes. I wish him well, would be kinda dull without him and Rossi.

Malaysia is proving to be a most difficult track to negotiate. Marc Marquez, Joan Mir, Pol Esparggaro. Vinales all of them had to go into Q1 and did not advance to Q2. MM still seems to be struggling with that right arm.

Frankly, I’m amazed Indonesia actually finished the race track. When they announced it, I thought that was the last thing they needed, or would ever finish building.

It seems to be pretty challenging for some of the teams…

I heard Marquez qualified 15th. Seems the bike doesn't suit him, although his teammate seems better.

Hope he isn't finished I think MotoGP needs a guy like Marquez. I didn't like him much at first, but he sure could ride.

Funny story, I met a MotoGP racer when I was visiting family in Italy back in '17. He told me some very funny stories about Marc Marquez. I wasn't a big fan when he first came in and was butting heads with The Doctor, but after learning more about him from that individual I warmed up to him.

Yeah MM was a bit of a dick in M3 and M2. I remember him being incredibly aggressive almost dangerously so, but the guy sure has pulled off some remarkable rides. His saves are the stuff of legend.

If you watch the MotoGP special on Amazon you'll see the surgical scars on his arm. That was one very serious injury!

OMFG! MM just had the most scary high side I've ever seen. The rear stepped out at about 120 mph in a right hander and violently launched him , I swear at least 10 feet into the air and twisted him around in the air. The dude was seriously staggered and the bike totally trashed. He staggered away but I'll be amazed if he passes the concussion protocol. :eek:
