Vegans, Crossfit, and Firearms. the people

haha..i (please, happy Monday. i am hoping this is a fun thread)

why do all three people insist on volunteering that info?

i got all three yesterday while fishing on a tiny city lake. guy told me he had his carry in his kayak with him, "just in case". oddly, he felt it was NOT necessary to wear his PFD. i paddled away in case he got mugged.

then a lady tells me she is tired from paddling, probably because she just adopted Veganism...huh? in her defense..her paddling skills were sick. she was FAST!! she stayed with me to tell me the ins and outs of her new chosen diet. goodie. apparenlty Lentils are a superfood.

then..end of day..i joke with my buddy..and said, "it's like Crossfit" my voice carried..and yup.."hey, i do crossfit!!".

HAHAHHA...

i did avoid the lady doing yoga on her SUP. she looked fantastic from afar.

That's REALLY weird that the dude had to tell you that he was carrying?

I think you really screwed up. This story was great, but it would have been so much better if more of the yoga lady had played a more prominent role.

You looked shady enough that he was subtly warning you to steer clear. Something about kayaks and corncobs in that Deliverance movie.

She was testing you to see if you were her type. Especially since you were "with a buddy." Her volunteering "I do CrossFit" should have been the clue. Before she invited you to share her "lentils" she was likely wondering if you ate what you caught (and were serious sportsman) or just enjoyed playing with your rod.

I suspect the kayaking crowd are the dog walking crowd, but in the water.

The on the beach dog walking crowd are VERY similar. We have vegan, crossfit and firearms covered.

One of them... Well the great thing about her is I don't need to know anything about anything, because she knows it for me. And if I do know something she very kindly points out to me I'm wrong and what the real facts are.

Lentils (otherwise known as "lens culinaris") is a sexy plant. The pistil consists of the stigma, the style, and the ovary, usually with two ovules.

I moved to a (largely) plant-based diet nearly two years ago.

I refuse to use the term "vegan" because of the sanctimony I associate with it.

That sounds more vegetarian than vegan.

My understanding is that vegan is more extreme than vegetarian. By "largely," does that mean that you do occasionally eat meat, or you eat no meat (fish, poultry, etc...) but you do have milk, cheese, eggs or something like that.

Just curious.

My wife is from Louisiana, so I stray and eat the sausage (although I leave the chicken and other meats alone) when she makes Gumbo or Jambalaya. Other than that, if it had a face or a mother I no longer ingest it.

I'll also have the occasional egg, but have moved on from dairy (tough, 'cause I'm a cheese lover).

Is that due to moral or digestive/health reasons? If health, could you elaborate a bit on any benefits you may have observed (or not)?

I'm always curious as well. I think around here it's almost always health reasons so I've don't ask here, athough I'm sure that may not be 100%.

I've met a couple/few that had moral reasons and one that I remember had what she believed were scientific reasons (us not being designed to eat meat was her reason).

Although studies disagree (imagine that!) as to whether or not dairy products are inflammatory, I can state with certainty that in my case, they absolutely are. Given that I'm battling two forms of arthritis, I figured it couldn't hurt to see what would happen if I removed it from my diet.

Anecdotal only, of course, but the difference has been dramatic. I move more easily - particularly first thing in the morning - and my stretching exercises have become only uncomfortable, versus outright painful. Of course this means I'll stretch more, which, of course, means I feel even better.

As to meat, all I can say is that I "feel" positive and definite difference since I gave it up (notwithstanding the Gumbo and Jamby I mentioned previously).

I found this fascinating - definitely worth an hour-and-a-half if you're interested at all in perhaps going meatless.

Were you kayaking with Vash the other day?

Yep.

I do not think I have ever told someone, in person that I don't know, what my diet is. How does that happen? Why does that happen?

Granted, I am not Mr. Share, but...it is the age old, "you do you, I'll do me".
