My daughter must have been looking around the house

She called her dog "Babygates" Beautiful dog can't find a picture, but doesn't look like a baby gate.

Here are Squeaky (right) and Fat Boy (left), two brothers from a litter of six. Russian Blue mix.

Squeaky kept trying to meow but could only manage a weak little 'aaack' -- hence Squeaky.

Fat Boy was born with a kitten-sized body but a huge baseball-sized head. Looked so top-heavy I thought he'd fall over with every step; that's how he became Fat Boy. Body grew to match his head, so was normally proportioned after about 9 months but the name stuck.

Both ended up being big (long and muscular, not fat) cats -- Fat Boy was 18 lbs. and Squeaky hit 20 lbs.

Squeaky lived to 15 years, Fat Boy made it to 18. I miss my boys.

Not sure if others here have similar experience, But I always try to name my cats with a real character name.. And for some reason I get the idea that over time they really seem to live up and their character then matches their name?

I used to do movie characters, like bad guys from movies for my tomcats
Bubba Zanetti.. Mad max righthand man to the toe cutter biker boss

Wel the cat turned out to be a miserable guy that hated everything in the world, other people, other cats, tweety birds, they were all beneath him..but was loyal to me..

The next one was called Boris the Blade, Boris the Sneaking Fíng russian as bent as the soviet sickle and as hard as the hammer that crosses it (Snatch movie)
Boris did turn out to be a total corrupt food fiend, he would beg steal blackmail for food.. relentless hunter..

My girl cat when I got her, i figured can't do movie bad girl, cause they all die young in movies (evil women in movies are pretty but get schwacked).. So went with heroine.. Jackie Brown.
And yes, she's very much like her movie counter part.. Very strong willed, weird, she doesn't like just about anyone.. She does everything on her terms.. But the boys can scare her ...

The latest one Shapnel von Pondfarm is not a movie bad guy name.. But with a name like Shrapnel, he really does do it honor, he's alfa cat and hes very strong character.. Takes no prisoners.

I had a cat a long time ago, got it at a barn and she was so small and pretty, unfortunately she was part rattle snake I think because she bit everyone that touched
her, me more than anyone. I named her montana.

Somehow she fell in love with a tomcat and had a big litter. When the kittens started growing I started worrying. So put a ad in one of our papers "Free kittens from Montana". Well people couldn't stay away, "kittens from Montana they gasped, must be something special" They would ask me "Are these kittens really from Montana?" Yes they are. And soon they were all gone.

Montana herself lived to be about 26 yrs old or so it seemed, dying gracefully out on our back lawn. But I loved her and still miss her.

Almost forgot, when we got montana she came with a side kick, a tiny tiny little calico whom we named Juicy Lucy Faye Lorraine
after a Jerry Jeff song "Dear John Letter Lounge" and the line "Lucy Faye Lorraine, taking side bets on the game, and old Pop Fox keeps saying he's gotta go''. Great song, great cat. Over and out ..YP

Well, when Cayman came to live with me, I started rattling out names and he responded to Cayman, so that has been his name.

While this guy isn't mine, he was easy to name.

Mr Grumps, but he is very sweet.

Well, I do not post as much as I used to, but I can't pass up an opportunity to share my pup!

Her name is Citra. We came upon her name on our way to go pick her up. My S/O and I are both pretty big into craft beer; particularly IPA's with loads of Citra Hops. The name stuck and now she is our brewery trip pup.

Wheatie was named after the cereal.

Gromit (middle) was my first dog and was named after the dog in Wallace and Gromit. Zeke (right) was my next one and I originally named him Eddie after the dog in "Frasier." I traded him for Bodhi (left) with my ex because her older dog didn't like him, but liked Eddie. She renamed Eddie to Zeke. I got Zeke back when she moved because her older dog had a long term eye issue and I had him for months already. Bodhi is 17 now and rounding 3rd base, but he's doing okay. He was named by my ex after the Bodhi tree in Buddhism. Sometimes it takes a while after you get a pet before you figure out what the perfect name would have been. Bodhi is a perfect Walter, but I call him Tiger a lot.

Oscar just seemed like a cool name.

Ellie was named by my ex after Elle Woods in Legally Blond and left behind when she moved again years later, probably because she's a little skittish, but she's a sweetheart.

Zora was gotten to be a friend for Oscar (Zeke and Bodhi were older and didn't like her). She was named after my grandmother as a remembrance, and you rarely see that name, at least in CA. Oscar loves her and licks her face all the time. Ellie likes Oscar, too, but she was left behind after I got Zora.

I named my first dog "Bullet" as a kid because that dog was fast and he could turn on a dime. He was a Shepard, Husky, Wolf mix. Loved that damn dog.. I visit him every time I go back home to visit the Folks.

After I married, our first two Black Labs were litter mates. We brought them both home because we couldn't choose between the two... Portia and Hamlet. Portia was smart as a whip and would have been an excellent 'only' dog and she was very much Deb's. Hamlet was my big guy, 114 lbs so, he was often referred to as Hammy or The Hambone.

Portia passed first and Hammy was getting on in years so, we got our third Black Lab mix, "Hudson". He was originally named after a San Francisco Giant baseball player, "Hudson" being one of eight black labs in a litter and they were all named after Giants. Being a life long Cubs fan, that wasn't going down in my abode.. After we decided to rename him, my oldest daughter took one look at him and "Loki", the Trickster, it was.

He has certainly lived up to THAT name.. He and Hammy were best buds until Hammy passed and I sometimes swear at least half of Hammy's spirit set up shop in Loki.. Cause he has some of the same stubborn, big doofus traits that Hamlet did.

And lastly, my fierce little girl.. She was brought home while I was working a site in Ottawa. Came home for Christmas and she greeted me at the door.. Had never met me before then but, we instantly bonded and she's been 'my dog' since. Again, my girls named her,,, "Arya" and she's a 'Stark' alright... She's a Rottie, Rhodie, Statfordshire mix. She's literally all muscle and takes no shytes but, super gentle and loving once she's met you.

My wife is jealous of our relationship.

Her and Loki been my office mates for the last two years now..

Agreed but when you mix smart with a healthy dose of stubborn, that can be a little challenging! LOL. Arya is intelligent and was a pleasure to train but, she’s highly reactive to other dogs until meeting. She definitely protects her pack and has a bark that that can be very intimidating. She’s only three and two of those years were somewhat cooped up like the rest of us. I’m still working on her social skills.

We’re in week 9 of a major interior remodel and she did surprisingly well meeting the crew. One week in and They were part of her pack. If you’re in the pack, you’re cool. Till that happens,,,,,Wow!

Loki on the other hand, loves everybody and all other dogs except ONE. There’s a husky in the neighborhood that he flat out can’t tolerate. Don’t know if it’s all the dog or a combo of the dog and his DICK owner,,,, seeing them is the only time his hackles are up.

Back in my single days I had a female doberman. She adopted me.

I came home from work one day and she was sitting on my front porch, right in front of the front door. There was a commercial for Dentine that was on at the time. Two brothers talking on a porch, and the younger brother asked the older brother why he chewed Dentine, and about then a pretty girl walks by and the older brother says "Hello Betty" and it is also a slang from the 1940s for a pretty girl. So I called her Betty.

She was very friendly, so I put some water out there for her, and looked for something to feed her as I had no dog food. I found some leftovers and she gobbled them down. When I woke up in the morning she was still out on the front porch.

I brought her in, and put her in my back yard. I called my boss and told him I would be late. I went to the store and bought some dog food, and a food bowl set and one tennis ball toy. She ate a bowl of food, and seemed happy in the back yard.

My front porch for some reason was her happy place. When I mowed the yard, she knew to sit and stay as I opened the gate, and I just snapped my fingers and she ran to the front porch and watched me mow. She knew when I was done, porch time was over, and she ran to the back yard.

Super smart dog, and I still miss her. She got some weird cancer on her right rear leg. I had it removed once, but it came back even more aggressive. I had to have her put down. It was the hardest thing I ever did.

Camille and Rodin

Camille was "easy". She had this habit of getting into a spinning fit when she was young. A Camille was slang in Canadian French (probably very old...) for a little kid hissy fit.

Rodin was tougher. He was a very loving kitten. My English cousin is married to a Parsian, so I asked her for a French word describing a very loving male.

"That does not exist." was her response. She knew Camille was the girl kitten. She suggested Agustus Rodin for the male kitten since his lover was Camille Claudel. I did not want to call him Rodin, because I knew my father would shift it to "Rodent". Anyway. He was Rodin.

Rodin was kinda stupid and would lay down in the middle of the street. He was eventually hit in an alley when I was living in San Diego.

More Camille trying to imitate a monorail
