How did you name your pet?
 

So this is my newest addition, "Lucy." She's a rescue. I named her after the Van Halen song "Drop dead legs." The lyric is "Loopy loo" I think, but I always heard it as "Lucy loo." So I was on my way home from the rescue, and that song came on , so that's her name. Any other stories? ( She's sleeping on my Pink Floyd rug, but pink didn't sound very good."

"Silver". I think somebody in the neighborhood moved out and left him behind. I adopted him as an approximate 2-3 year old (per the Vet) beat up with a war wound back in 2014. He's been my best bud since.

Our last cat was named Bruce Lee, so our most recent one got named Jackie Chan. My teenage daughter is going with Asian martial arts action heros. They're cats, so they've all got some degree of innate ninja skills.

Bruce was originally named Daisy by my daughter, because we thought he was a she. But when we got the kitten fixed, we were informed that our cat was indeed a he. So my daughter quickly renamed him Bruce Lee due to his sneaky physical prowess. Seems she's keeping with the martial arts theme so far.

Soba, Maya and Makena were all rescues, and those were the names they came with.

My cat actually belongs to my son but he moved out about 5 years ago and the cat remained with me.
His official name is "Sonic" but I call him "Pou Chumly" or "Chumbles".

Great cat and he doesn't bother the wild birds or my chickens but he keeps the mice and rat population to a minimum.

Lucy is on the left, she was named Lucy by the rescue we got her from. Best we can tell she is a Potcacke Dog. So many from the Islands that we meet in public ask if we got her from the Islands.

The little frankendog on the right was named Prince by the rescue. He was a just weened puppy when we adopted him, we did not like the name prince, it really did not fit him. His mom was found as a pregnant stray in Okeechobee Florida and gave birth at the rescue. We got one of the 7 pups she had.

We changed his name to Ricky. Why did we name him that? We thought it was a cute name to give him considering our first rescues name.

My girlfriend named my lab-rott mix Portia after the Merchant of Venice character. Best dog in the world, incredibly smart. She could hold a big jar in her paws and unscrew the lid with her mouth.

That name fits him perfectly. His face is awesome.

My wife fosters kittens, and we just officially adopted our first and hopefully only "foster fail." She was bottle feeding him at 2 days old after someone brought him into the shelter. He was enormous for his age and just a black ball of fur. He looked like a black bear or a mole, and sometimes just looking at the size of him my wife would exclaim "Holey Moley!" So now he's "Moley."

Before we took him back for adoption they told us he had feline leukemia - life expectancy about 2 years. So we figured we'll just keep him here as adoption was not likely. Then we found out no, they actually meant he has FIV, which isn't quite as serious. Anyway, he's ours now, and I'm pretty attached to him.

This is Harry and Steve. We have another cat named Ben. How we named them was simple. When we brought them into the house, I would ask them what their names were. Then they got named the first thing that would pop into my head.

Border Collie "Flow", because when she runs over the fields she seems to flow.

Our border collie girl, Pepper was named by my nephew who commented that the spots on her legs look like pepper flakes.
Our new BC guy gets his name from a childrens book called "It's a Dog's Life". Russ is the name of the dog in the book. Great kids book from England for the dog lovers out there.

My dog Alvin was one of 5 puppies that my parents' two dogs had. My dad named them Alvin, Melvin, Calvin, Selina, and Serina.

He was sold to a neighbor but cried so much for his siblings mother and dad, that they gave him back. So I adopted him. He makes a big deal still each time he reunites with his mom, dad, and little sister.

Baby named herself. She would only come when I call her Baby. She was a stray living on the streets. Scared, skinny, and needing a home.

Reuben and Reese. The smooth black dachshund we got as a puppy. The dappled long hair female came for the same breeder. She would go and pick him out of the litter to play with when he opened his eyes. She is two years older and was named Reese for he coloring like the candy. So we decided he needed a food related name. Since Reuben is a nice German name, that was our choice.

Reuben is a cold nature dog. He hates cold weather and loves to lay in the sun. Reese is the opposite, and like it cold with all her hair to keep her warm. She is only over there to be close to him. They are best friends and they have never had the slightest bit of a fight, even if she comes and gets a bit of food from his bowl as he is eating.

Dolly Parton, the dog.

Originally named as such do to her coat of many colors. However, she is also a little bit classy and a little bit trashy.

My first pet was a cat I adopted from a junk yard we lived next to when I was six years old. He was a brown colored cat so in my creative state at that young age, I named him "Brownie." He was just grown and lived in the junk yard guarded by pincers and GS. It took me about a month & a half before I could touch him. He was an outside cat that fought on a nightly basis and was a terror when it came to dogs. Nobody else in the family could touch him, but he was one of the best cats ever.

I ask my wife what she thinks we should name them, the end

"Nalu". My Wife named him. I'm more of a Hank or Ruger or Dempster guy. But she likes Hawaii and Nalu means "Ocean wave".

I've always felt dog names should be 2 syallables, they seem to react better when called.

When my kids were little they'd name all of our outdoor pets by the color. So a gray cat was "greyee", black... blackee, orange... orangee. Then we had a few variations of "fluffy" (the original) which morphed into Mr Fluffy Pants on the last fluffy cat we had. Then they graduated to giving the outdoor cats names that sounded like Disney characters. We have one named Annabella. My oldest daughter named her cat Cleo because we needed a "Queen" with Ace (black as the ace of spades) and Jack (because we already have an Ace) our dogs. My youngest named her cat Cali but it's not a calico. The only cat I named is Brutus Beefcake. I don't know why my wife and kids won't let me name pets anymore.

My wife named him Cooper which she regrets because I started to call him Pooper (which stuck). People laugh and think it's a cute name. I tell them he's the "Pooper" because we all do what we're good at

My male Boxer is named JAX after the lead character of Sons Of Anarchy.
The bond between me & him is as strong as the club members bond to each other was.
I'm his Alpha and he's my "Mexican Pistol" cocked and ready to unload as needed.

A friend's dog is called Boof. I like that name for a dog.

He just looked at me one day and said "Hey. Name's 'Ed'...".

My Chihuahua's name is Goliath. He is huge at 15 pounds. No an ounce of fat on him. He's a big fella.

First dog was a GSD and I was only 4-5 so my sister named him Flipper. Go figure. Next was a black and white beagle/sheltie mix and he looked just like the Pokey Little Puppy and was slow so he got named Pokey.

Many years later we saw a yellow lab on the side of the road. Her puppy had been hit by a car and she was trying to get it off the road. No one claimed her so we adopter her and since she was the mother dog her name was Theresa. After she passed we adopted another yellow lab from a rescue. They named her Jackie and she was blind in one eye. I laughed and said "One eyed Jackie?" They were not amused. We got a beagle at a rescue to keep the lab company and our son named him Luke from the cats and dogs movie (I know Lou is the real name, but we didn't like Lou).

My brother in law passed and we inherited his brindle black French Bulldog named Shadow. He is dark like a shadow and is underfoot like a shadow so it is a perfect name.

Noah, from the Bible. As that's the only thing I could relate to in there as a little kid, because it was about a guy building a boat from nothing.

Also, because most all my past dogs names started with a "R", and I have no rational reason why I did that.

First dog, a black Lab, we named him Benson. At the same time, there was a TV sitcom in the early 80's with the same name...

Five years ago my sister in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She asked me to take care of her 10 year old Lab. I had Homer for four years.
Homer was named at 8 weeks old by her adult son. The name really seemed to fit...
I miss Homer...

We got our rescue about 13 years ago, a scrawny 1 year old mix (border collie - Aussie). His name was Tank, and it just didn’t work for us. Rather than confuse the dog I decided he was now Hank. Worked right out of the box. But boy it was a bunch of work to get him to be a good dog. We persevered and (in about 2 years) he became the sweetest companion for us. Here he is at his favorite place, Carmel beach Ca a couple of years ago.

Bosco. My wife named him, claiming every dog I didn’t know I’d call “Bosco”. He’s an 8 year old 30 pound mini labradoodle.

My wife and daughter named him after the country music singer Brad Paisley.

We picked up Teddy 15 years ago on President's Day, so we named him after a president with the best name for a fluffy dog. TR is also one of my favorite presidents.

We picked up Lucy recently, close to President's Day, so we picked a first lady's name. Most weren't suitable for a dog, but Dolly Madison and Lucy Hayes were good ones; we went with Lucy, although I know nothing of her husband.

When I come home from work and I don't see my wife around I sometimes yell "Looocy, I'm home from da club!".

She named our fist dog Lucy.
I named the next dog...Ricky!!
