Narrowboats

I never knew this was a thing. Hell, I didn't even know the canals existed in the UK.
Pretty cool, but it looks like only the elite can afford it.

There are several videos from people living aboard those boats, and just traveling the canals of England. It is a different world. It might be fun for a week or two.

We watch a lot of British mysteries, and these things come up from time to time. Maybe this is what Chris needs to consider instead of a big Cat in FL.

Lots of good pubs back onto the canals, just saying!

I went down the rabbit hole of watching the Narrowboats videos last night and figured I'd share.
Quite the boating community there.

I am having a difficult time seeing my wife living or even weekending on one of those boats.

A co-worker and his wife spent a week on a canal boat. If I recall correctly, they took the boat close to 100 miles during their time. He was into the history of the area. She just wanted to relax and watch the world slide by.

Been following a few on YouTube for a while. Interesting way of life

We have narrow boats here as the Erie Canal goes right through town

Mrs Ahab hired a narrowboat for my 50th birthday, it was liking living life in slow motion, felt like I should have been celebrating my 80th

Everything goes by too slowly for me and I got told off for speeding because I went passed a few parked up boats faster than a walking pace

The canals are narrow with designated turning about places but if you give it enough gas on a right hand bend, give the boat enough hard lock to the right and are prepared to ram both banks repeatably with both ends of the boat you can do a 20 point turn to do a u-turn

Why a narrow boat when you could have a hover van?

We have it made in North America. Ample number of lakes, rivers and of course the oceans to frolic in. The UK of course is surrounded by the sea but inland there are lots of rivers and streams but you may have noticed the canal that the narrow boat is moored in. The water appears to have little flow and the color of it is not great.

One thing that my inlaws mentioned when they rented a narrow boat in the UK twenty years ago is if you fell in the water the quality of the water left a lot to be desired. A lung full of that stagnant crappy water could be the end of you and not necessarily from drowning.

Thanks for the video Rod. That was interesting.

there are several narrow boat series on amazon prime but i havent checked them out yet. Ive mostly watched the youtube videos including the channel re the video posted here....I especially like the videos focused on buying a beat up boat and making it livable for cheap

i took a narrow boat ride on the erie canal a few years back and we continue to ride our bikes along the erie canal....what ive noticed is that there is a lot of wildlife to see because the banks are usually wooded except when the canal goes through a town. So, its very peaceful, you get to go through locks and if going through a town, you can get off and explore, eat etc...

If the winters werent so bad here, i would have no problem living on a narrow boat so long as I could park my car close by. MY wife, no way

Looks like these things have been around forever and used to be towed by horses from the shore.

Before the railroads the canal boats were used to transport goods and travelers, pulled from the tow paths with horses.
