That stuff is just amazing. I would think you couldn’t even use a piece of wood like that.

My grandfather was pretty good with lathe and a drill. This was his first one he figured out.

What a waste of a perfectly good bit of firewood.

Beautiful, initially I didn't like seeing that beautiful knot being destroyed, in the end, awesome work.

Epoxy is all the rage these days. I usually don't much care for what I've seen, but the vase was really nice.

Great video but that's a lot of epoxy resin. He must buy it in bulk.
- And he has one serious lathe and tool setup.

FYI: "Robert Sorby" is based in Sheffield England they make high quality turning tools.

Lots of woodworking tools, powered and hand powered come from Sorby and Sheffield, hand planes, chisels, saws, etc....

Several years back I turned a custom sized finial for another woodworker building a grandfather clock. He didn't have a lathe himself.

I've turned dozens of bowls of various shapes and sizes over the years but don't have any photos of them handy.

I was going to post this yesterday when I first saw this thread. I was otherwise occupied so I’m glad you did. I love these creative results.

Interesting. Very creative.

When I saw the vase farther up, I thought "I'd own that!" And I love globes and maps. I used to have one of those globes made from various types of rocks/minerals. For me, this just missed the mark somehow. I have no desire to own it. I'm not sure if I'd have preferred it if the pencils had been parallel to the axis, or if I'd have preferred it if the "land" had been something other than black. I'm just not sure, I can't put my finger on it. But it's neat.
