It's been a tank. Since it closes, your screen is protected most of the time. I've knocked it off the counter (open) a few times, and I don't have any dents, scratches or anything else on it. And I don't use cases--never have.

The Pixel 6 Pro and the Galaxy S22 Ultra have an alarming number of reviews mentioning issues. My kids each got a new Iphone 13 pro max and they seem to be problem free. My phone really does everything I want it to do but they're offering $700 in trade for my phone to upgrade. Dammit! I don't know which phone to go with???

Thanks for the inspiration. I checked a comparison between the iPhone 12 pro max and the 13, and the battery life alone would make it worthwhile. Seems like my battery gets low by mid-day, plus the camera is better, etc. I also looked into other services, so I'm going to bundle with my Xfinity and get their mobile service, sell the current phone 60 days after I close the Verizon account, and wind up with unlimited data for a good chunk less. Works for me!

The battery life on my kid's 13 Pro max is impressive and the camera? WOW. I got to see it firsthand with the side by side video comparison between my S9 and his 13 Pro. There was no comparison really. The 13 was far and away the better camera. In low morning light, the 13 video was much brighter and crisp than the video from my S9 on it's highest settings.

One of my friends just went through this same decision. He is a full on analog man, but his kids are wanting to share videos and photos of his grandbaby. Like most grandparents there is suddenly no limit on what he will do to be more involves with the grandkid.

My advice to his was to find out what phone his kids use, as that is how he can get tech support. He also has a second kid that is a few miles from him, so she can help. The all use iPhones. It was a no brainier recommendation. Go with what the family knows. His daughter came over and spent a few hours showing him the basics. And she set up his iTunes account, Apple Pay, email and contact lists and some apps he might like.

He said he is blown away by the quality of videos, and feels like a geek when he goes to his local grocery store, waves his phone by the check out and walks out all paid up. He has learned the usefulness of his smart phone and he was one of the guys that said smart phone are just distractions for many years. Now he understands.

Flip phones last 2-5 days. A benefit of simplicity. They usually don't have automated remote selfies or voice recognition adware running in the background.

Go through your apps, delete everything but the essentials, turn off location services until it is needed, bump up those privacy settings, and find that app with the bitcoin mining feature.
Keep it lean and mean.

My iPhone 11 Pro usually last two days per charge, and it is still above 40% after two days of normal use. Only when I am using it a lot do I charge it every evening.

I’m pre-ordering the iPhone 16 with the compact nuclear reactor. It’s supposed to last the life of the phone, or me, whichever comes first.

I must be the only person here that loves my Motorola Moto Z4.

It's a smart phone folded in half so you have half the contact area to bash. I broke the screen on a biggish smart phone one time cuz my shotgun butt was against it in my coat pocket when I pulled the trigger. I think the only way to bust it would be to have it open and sit on it or fold it backwards some how? I've dropped mine a lot of times in the closed postion with no damage. I'm way hard on phones myself. I miss the old rugged GZones. I acutally plowed one up in the field and ended up recovering it and it was GTG. -WW

Do you notice any wear where it folds? I do like the idea of a small flip type phone. That’s my one complaint about my Note, it’s too big in the hand (that’s what she said) and I have huge hands.

No, none.

The screen does have a little "indent" in the middle of it (where it folds, duh), but it's really not noticeable when using the phone.

The "fold" mechanism isn't really like old flip phones. It's pretty well thought out.

I still have my old GZone for my work/business phone. Has to be at least 11 years old. It's been through hell and back Dropped of ladders, bicycles, boats etc.. under 5ft of water.

Keeps on cranking

So far the Iphone has jumped into the lead. Only real drawback is having to buy airpods. I suppose I don't "have" to but you get full functionality with airpods vs my galaxy buds.

I just got a new S21 since they are still out there and USC was having a hard time getting the S22. So far with a few weeks use the batter life has been great and BT works better than my 8 year old LG I had. That said, I had to buy a USB to 3.5mm dongle to use my good studio headphones.

cabmandone 04-13-2022 12:43 PM

And the Iphone 13 Pro Max wins! I've gone over to the "dark side"

I decided to take Steve's advice on another thread. He said if I buy a new Iphone 13 Pro Max, all will be right with the world and world peace would be achieved. I might be stretching a bit but I think that's almost word for word what he said. So it's all on his shoulders now!

Steve Carlton 04-13-2022 01:27 PM

iPhone can do that. Just download the Everything is Fine app.

cabmandone 04-13-2022 05:30 PM

^^^
I'd settle for a "port everything from my Android phone to my new iPhone". I used the Android to iPhone app but it didn't move a lot of things. Oh well! Everything seems pretty intuitive. Just a few different swipe gestures and looking in a different place for certain things.

cabmandone 04-14-2022 11:58 AM

LOL! I've never played a game on my phone and have no intention of starting now. I will however be imessaging you just so I can see that you've read my message!

It's really kind of surprising how similar the Android and IOS systems are. The biggest differences I've found are the direction you swipe, and where the aps are located. One small thing is that I used Zedge for custom ringtones for my friends and family. Zedge for iPhone doesn't have near the ringtones available.

I really don't understand how anybody can consider anything else but an iPhone these days.. Trust me, I'm NOT an Apple fan boy, but let's face it, their stuff works! And it's SO frustrating to be in a group chat and some jackwagon with a droid(or whatever) joins and turns the whole chat green and messes up everyone's ability to know if texts have been sent or read, etc and limits how many people can join and then when someone else joins, you have to start an entire new group, no facetime, etc.. it always seems like its very complicated for them to get to certain things also.. Ask an iPhone user to pull up a text or what have you and it's done in .05 seconds.. ask a Droid guy and it always takes 5 minutes.. lol.
