When other drivers notice your 911

This car still turns heads.
Took it out for a drive today.

At a red light. Another car turns on the street, now driving towards me, stops his car in traffic when he reaches me, and takes a photo.

Guy in an oncoming Delorean sticks his arm out his window as he drives past me.

Merging car load of youth do a double take as I pass, and give the thumbs up.

I've been having young guys come up to me and tell me how much they love the car. Also young guys driving past and yelling out the window "Love the car Bro."

It must be the retro thing going on.

I even got approached by a property developer who didn't want to buy my land but wanted to buy the 911 LOL

On my first drive of this spring with the 78SC...I parked at a bar & grille for lunch.
When leaving..found a business card under the wiper with "If you ever decide to sell...call me"

You are someone's bro down there too? I think its a retro thing. Where I live, there were no air cools vars but two that I know of for years. Now that hipsters are in full force, I see about 5 driving around and parked at various homes up here in the hill. All air cool cars. There are tons of wasser-pump-ars around

Yep, the older 911s still get a lot of attention on the road most of the time. The only place that they may not get much attention is Cali.

What's really surprising is that your post wasn't grumpy or beyotchy.

I'm in CA and literally every time I'm in the 911 I get thumbs up, comments and every now and then a note on the windshield inquiring if I'd sell. Every time I'm gassing up someone comes over to talk about the car. It's always attracted attention but even more nowadays. I'm guessing people are growing tired of the souless modern cars that all look the same

When I was driving my 87 930, people always commented on it and thought it was a much newer car.

My E46, not so much. haha

At the Costco gas station on Monday, the attendant came over and said, ‘nice wheels’ as I was gassing up my 76 930.

He then went to the guy next to me and said, geez, I don’t understand how people can keep these old cars looking so good.

I asked him, what year do you think this thing is?

His guess was 1997.

I told him the car is 46 years old and he couldn’t believe it.

I've had some great interactions with total strangers over the years.
- One of the many joys of owning a 911.

At some point I want to simplify my life but I'll hang onto her for a while yet.

Many years ago I had a GF who wanted me to sell the SC. Her reasoning was: "why have more than one nice car?"
Thankfully I didn't listen to her.

The gas station conversation usually starts, "Hey nice 911, what year is it?" Me, "It's an '82." Then the questioners launches, "Yeah, I had one once. Never shoulda sold it. Red you know. Interested in selling?"

When I first became involved in the 1970, Porsches were not nearly as common and those driving them would flash their headlights at each other. Remember? Not so much today.

Nice post Sugar! Seeing an air cooled 911 on the road here is very rare....

At the car show last fall in historic Guthrie, OK I set up my chair behind my car along with some other fellow Porsche drivers.

I had several dozen guys from 14 years old to 60 tell me that my 911 is the car they think of when someone says Porsche 911. Many of the older guys said they had a poster of a 911 Turbo on the wall when they grew up. I chatted about the car, and most people have only vague knowledge of the car. Most knew it was air cooled and had a engine in the rear, but that was about it. Many were amazed that I did the vast majority of the work, and it was not some exotic finicky car. Most were amazed to hear I had driven it to 41 states, on a quest to drive to all the lower 48 states.

For people that had clean shoes I let them sit it in, and the kids all had a huge smile, grabbed the steering wheel and pretended to drive. I spent most of the day talking about my car, and about G body 911s to strangers. I ended up winning first place for the category.

Several people asked to take a picture of them next to my 911. It was of course a car show and everyone there was a "car person" and liked cars. It was a long and fun day.

16 year old girl at the gas station, "Oh my God, that is the coolest car. What is it?"

Demonstrates the favorable aesthetics the car delivers to many who have no clue of the snob stereotype.

My '78 gets a LOT of attention. Mocha with black window trim, lowered, with Euromeister 17" wheels. As with Unclebilly's experience, people are shocked to learn it is 44 years old.

Probably took his meds or got laid.

Pretty refreshing when he's not a jerk.

I'm surprised at the attention the 911 gets from teens. My grandson's high school friends always want me to open the garage so they can admire it again and again. They are infatuated with it and the car was born 40 years before they were born. Some cars are just timeless

Can't recall anybody paying much attention to my old 911.

The corvette owners wave to each other.
In my old muscle cars I'd get frequent thumbs up.
In the 911 not so much.

I still get waves from other Porsches, except the SUVs.

My 911 is blue with red accents and wheels so it’s hard not to notice it, but I enjoy the conversations that start when I stop or get gas etc. When I see another Porsche one no matter what I am in I give a thumbs up.
