anyone driving a Prius?
i have one temporarily for work. it is a last generation Prius V. the weird minivan looking one. it actually runs alright. the gas needle hasnt moved for two days. inside is cavernous. being a total nerd, i pulled a tape measure across the roof and two Yakima Bars would be far enough apart to easily carry a kayak.
super NOT cool. the Napa county ladies think i am invisible. haha.. it would be perfect from bringing ammo across the Nevada border. i am just gonna say it. it doesnt totally suck. Toyota did it right, and it shows by all the varoius versions i see on the road. my soul would wither and die, i think tho. but i wont say the car sucks.

Toyota...gotta give them credit for what they do. The cars they build...just work. I've become a fan of Cindy's Camry because of it's hassles free utility. Zero excitement, like any appliance...But, that is a plus to many people.
Invisible to chicks can also be a good thing...think about it. But for me? Death before Prius. Love the sound of my V-8 'Stang.

Love the Prius. We had a 2010 which we bought slightly used after selling my wife's '87 Carerra. We gave that to our son then bought her a Prius V. She got into a major accident with it and the V saved her life. It was totaled so we bought a '09 which we bought daily drive now. Even around our hilly town, it gets 33 mpg.

Wife is on her second one, she commuted 140 plus miles a day for many years, no telling what she saved on gas not to mention repairs over a non toyota.

Prius is probably the most impressive bit of automobile engineering on the road, especially later plug in variants.
As an appliance for transportation it is a no brainer. I like the form factor of the V model as well wish they would bring out an updated prime model.

I wouldn't say I drive one, I wheel it.
First a 2007 (185K) now a 2004 (230K).GTO, never had to change brake pads on either. @ 225K, I cleaned the MAF sensor.

The Q is "Does anyone still drive a Prius with a catalytic converter?" My Brolaw has 2 of the infamous things, and lost 5 cats to hacksaw bandits in 2 years - super easy to steal

I'm thinking about going straight pipe, but it's still there, for now. Work sells cats, in one day, out of stock the next. Toyota trucks go faster.

To the OP question: Uh no, nor do I have a minivan. Still have my man card. But the MPG is incredible and makes me think.

+1. There are 3 cars/manufacturers out there where I'd rather walk than drive one of their products. The Prius is one of them. Not because of the product, but rather the people who drive them. Prius drivers are the worst and least aware drivers on the road. Worse than Cadillac drivers (who are just old). Worse than Volvo drivers (who know they're terrible drivers, so they drive the safest car on the road). With so many.other excellent choices for vehicular transportation, I just can't bring myself to spend money to join that group.
[/Grumpy old man rant off.]

Buddy of mine has a Prius as a spare car, the mini van version also. Someone once told him when he first purchased the Prius that they were a "gay car". Growing up in the 1960's era of The Flintsones he always thought it was like "having a gay old time".
After a period of time passed some insecurity set in so he replaced all the Toyota emblems and logos with Honda emblems and logos. The original Toyo marques were actually stolen. He also has a license plate frame that states" My other car is a Toyota". The rolling joke plays on except for the wheel center caps as the only giveaway. Now he says he gets more respect and people ask what model Honda it is? They also tell him how rude and poor drivers Prius owners are with impeding traffic by slowing down an entire freeway to see how great they have gotten at practicing regenerative braking technique. It has been published and noted "Prius drivers are the worst and least aware drivers on the road. Worse than Volvo drivers. People want to walk instead of drive a Prius!" Its like wearing Crocs to a formal wedding. Good fortune has set in also as he has not had to pay for single parking ticket in five years for the parking enforcement mis-identifying his vehicle as a Honda on every invitation to make a donation. No kidding here. The moral of the story is the majority of the public cant tell one model car from one manufacturer or another. Personally without the emblems it looks like a British Mazda whatever the hell that might be. I have the most respect for my friend because he hot rods this Prius around town in an unerving manner. I recommended he install exotic car emblems at some time. He liked that idea.

we were constantly harassed by goofs in big pickup trucks, when in less urban areas.
that was a bit of a downer. |

hahha..,my buddy Jack was getting some crap from a bunch of hunters. they thought he was a "hiker". he ignored them, and opened his hatch. he had a big buck on a tarp in the back of his Prius. this was in Los Angelos. he hunts this hiking spot. super funny. i've had to rescue Jack before. we met in the Mohave. we left his car and took my tacoma the rest of the way. JAck is nuts.
