Hot Enough For Ya?

Left home for biking this am at about 8am
Went about 5 miles and decided it wasn't worth it. No wind and the humidity was a killer.

98° today. Didn’t check the humidity, but I was sweating bullets.

When they say it is not the heat, it is the humidity, damn straight it is about the humidity.

Had a weatherman in Houston talking about 102% humidity on TV one time. This did not sound right to me, as I am the sort of person that would maybe poke someone in the eye, if'n they were to start talking about giving 110% I call down there to ask, lady says hold please, and the guy I was looking at on my crapbox TV 15 minutes ago is on the phone. I guess I should not have been surprised, what else is the weather man doing, when he is not reading the national weather service thing.

I ask him about it, and he tells me it is a relative humidity. 100% relative humidity, well that is rain, how is it wetter than raining? Apparently, there is a set temp, barometric pressure, dew point and they call it 100% humidity. Weather conditions can exist, where the relative humidity can be greater than 100%, which is known as supersaturation. This is all great to know, but it still does not seem right to me. He finally just says look, it means don't go outside, which is solid advice.

If the temperature is 90+ and 100% relative humidity, or heaven forbid, greater than 100% humidity, do not go outside. It will be too damp for you to burst into flames, but just barely.

I've got a buddy that just moved to the Dallas/Ft Worth area from NY. He's got a heated pool. He's not happy until the pool is 90º. I haven't been in a pool in a long time, but what I remember from when I was in the water more when I was younger was that a pool that warm sucked. From what I remember, the sweet spot was right about where yours is, probably 80-85.

I think it's about perfect right now. It was mid 90's when I jumped in so 82 felt pretty nice. Once you get into the 90's there's now "ah" sensation.

Maybe when you're in the 100's, 90 gives you that same "ah" when you get in?

92 yesterday with heat index of 100. Of course...thats when the A/C decides to do the Amber Heard. Well, over 80 in the house. The dogs were getting quite hot. Put ice in their water dishes and dragged out a couple of fans. Repairman came out after 7pm. Found a wired that had shorted on the case. That got fixed, but the compressor was so hot that it wasnt functioning. It would need a long time to cool off. At this point it was cooler outside, so we opened all the windows and had a relatively comfortable night. I turned the A/C unit back on this morning and it is operating normally. Thank goodness !

When you say "our" are you referring to your AC at home? If so, take a look at the larger of the two lines that go into the outdoor unit. Is there some condensation forming on it? If not it might be time for a "tune up" Is the outdoor coil clean? If not, turn the system off and turn off the power to the outdoor unit. Take a hose and wash down the outdoor coil. Allow some time for the coil to dry or use a leaf blower and blow it dry then restart the system and check for condensation. Make sure your air filter is clean and in some cases, turn your fan switch on the thermostat to the on position to allow the furnace fan to run continuously.

On the outdoor coil, I think you can buy coil cleaner from places like Lowes or Home Depot. A not so easy thing to check is the evaporator coil. Sometimes debris gathers on the inside of the coil, the side you can't see, that reduces airflow across the evaporator.

You might have already known these things but many people don't.

I feel like most of the time, temps reported by autos are optimistic because the car has been absorbing heat and is reading high from what the actual temp is.
