Singer-songwriters are the world's gift!
To assimilate a complex narrative with pretty words flowering together, textured with rhymes and music, is one of the greatest of talents

Isadora Duncan, considered the mother of modern dance, lost her two children along with their governess when their car tragically went off a bridge just outside Paris and into the Seine in 1913.

Later in 1927, she was riding in an Amilcar CGSS in Paris when her long scarf blew into the wind and got wrapped around a rear axle, pulling her out of the car and breaking her back. She was 50 years old.

A damaged Japanese Showa/Nakajima L2D Transport photographed on Saipan - June/July 1944
The Showa/Nakajima L2D was a license-built version of the Douglas DC-3 and was the most important Japanese transport in WW2, the L2D was given the Allied code name “Tabby”.
Nakajima Hikoki acquired the license rights to bulld the DC-3 from the Douglas Aircraft Company for $90,000 in February 1938.
Originally powered by imported Pratt & Whitney radial engines, the first L2D prototype flew in October 1939 and entered production in 1940 with Mitsubishi radial engines, many different variants of the L2D were built during WW2, none survive today.

I had never heard of the DC3 built under license by the Japanese. I had heard of the Russian version.

Not surprising, considering how poorly they were cared for.

When loading grain into cargo holds in old sailing ships it's important to collapse any air pockets to maximize the grain in the hold. Longshoremen would load the grain into the hold. Prostitutes waiting on the dock for the longshoremen to finish their day would often be put to use walking around on the loaded grain to compact it. This is how they came to be called "Tramps".

The torsion bar suspension was invented by Porsche GmbH, patented in 1931.

Used in Porsche cars, Battle Tanks, Chrysler products, Auto Union GP cars, lots of other applications....

If a statue of a person in the park on a horse
has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle.

If the horse has one front leg in the air, the person
died as a result of wounds received in battle.

If the horse has all four legs on the ground,
the person died of natural causes.

Refrigerated rail cars were first used to transport beer. This invention enabled Budweiser to become the first national-known brand.

During the 1930s, about half the population of the US smoked cigarettes.

Back in the day, Philip Morris added ethylene glycol to their cigarette tobacco in order to reduce the irritation of 'smoker's cough'. Yes, the same stuff that's found in antifreeze.

The most common street name in the US is 2nd Street.
