Bird Bath

Quite often...esp in the morning, I find a bird in the waterfall area of my pond flapping its wings. I understand the need for water, but they stay there flapping for at least 10 minutes. What are they trying to do??

I'd say the birds are either really enjoying a good bath, or trying to shake a turtle off their leg?

Wow, just the past couple minutes watching the turtle cam...those guys are hitting the climb thru like Saturday night drunks at a Taco Bell.

^^^ they are thinking outside the bun!

Blue Heron found my ponds. I could never keep fish in it again.

I suggest something to keep the birds out.

^^^ I have seen birds circling above the pond. I put a fake hawk on the railing above the pond.
If they get one of the fish (there are only two)..no big loss. I purchased them from Walmart for less than 50 cents each.

My biggest problem are the raccoons. Every morning there are sandy raccoon footprints on the pond ledge. During the night, they climb up there and try to paw the fish out. I don't think they are going for the turtles.

I don't want to set a live-trap for them...I'll surely catch a skunk instead.

Sounds like you need to stake out the pond one night with night vision goggles and a 22 with a silencer

Run an electric wire around the outside where the racoons try to climb up.

Sort of like this?....

It was an earlier pond version in 2007. Less than half the size of the one now.
My neighbor, at that time, had about a dozen cats and they would sit on the edge and try to snag the fish.
The top wire is hot and the tin plate on the ledge provided the ground.(a cable from the plate to the ground)

It worked great. Trouble was, it was always in the way for cleaning the filters.

I'm getting a nice feed of the pond. Full size on the screen. No hiccups, etc.

stevej37 07-04-2022 06:17 AM

^^^ Thanks...I appreciate any feedback if it's working or not working.
If you haven't...the sound button is there also.

masraum 07-04-2022 06:26 AM

Yep, audio and video are always good when I take a look.
