I happen to think that it’s not the dogs, it’s the fact that people are buying totally different fireworks than they did 20 years ago. The scale of what people light off now is vastly greater than what it was 20 years ago. In my old neighborhood, at times it sounded like you were in a war zone.

A puppy dawg exposed to gun shots at an early age will not mind a "war zone" either

Growing up at home...we never were allowed to keep the family dog inside.
It had a dog house with straw and a blanket. The dog seemed just as happy as could be.

Yup and 'momsy-womsy' insists on taking yappy into the food store as a 'comfort animal' and they sit in the cart

I do the opposite of you guys. All of the animals that I'd mind losing are inside for the duration. Even one of my feral cat friends decided to move into the office and is now the office cat with her own litter box, bed, and cat tree. No one goes outside while the dumbassery is in effect. |

Well, we're all down here in my office tonight, its heavily insulated for my music, but it works great for fireworks too. We very softly listening to Ummagumma.

I do not understand our meat-brained foxhound.
Last night, World War III outside. She's zonked out under the TV, could not care less. Tonight there's a thunderstorm rolling in. She's freaked out, shaking, panting. tongue out, drooling, pacing. She has her thundershirt on, had a doggy downer chew, waiting for it to kick in. |

Please make this go viral. We all need that kind of humorous lunacy. I see the world through these folks behavior. It's all around and instead of disgust or hate, I've learned just how funny potential maiming can be. Hopefully, though, no one was seriously hurt. My dad lost his eye on he 4th of July in 1934. That event was just as stupid with unfortunate results. I don't think he would have seen this as funny. I'm still laughing several minutes later. That was awesome. |

Due to drought conditions we had very little fireworks on Monday. Didn't even bother my 2 sissy dogs that usually go ape...
During fireworks and thunderstorms we use Thundershirts. We call it their super hero capes. It looks a bit like a racing blanket for horses and sort of swaddles them. The beagle usually requires more than just the Thundershirt. Trazadone is a big help but it makes her groggy even in the next day.

Booms and bangs........
I have two large (over 100 lbs each) Great Pyrs that really hate fireworks. Unfortunately, we have some close neighbors that shoot off fireworks, some really loud, right here in the neighborhood. We have tried sedating them but that usually doesn't work. The thing that seems to work the best is to close all the doors in the back hallway and turn off the hall light. That gives them a dark (no fireworks flash) and quiet as possible place to hide. My third dog is part Pyr, part Blue Tick and has to be held in a lap or petted and talked to the whole time. Next time which will probably be New Years, I am going to call the sheriffs office and that a deputy patrol the area.

I’d recommend that you show up at their doorstep and inform them that if they pull that **** again next year, you will be calling the cops and you will agree to prosecute them.
You might find that they take their little party elsewhere. |
