At least I have trusted people who know how to deal with numbers that big... and on the wife's side of the family, most are dead, and on my side of the family most have a few million already. Would need to take care of my brother, but that is easy enough to do via a lawyer (did I mention the trusted people?) Needless to say the PPOT Gift Exchange could be interesting :)
A guy that worked down the hall as an AV Tech (pushing TVs and VCRs around campus...) won 10 million. Stayed in the job to see a certain two people fired. Two years later, that happens, but he only has 3 years to pull a full state retirement, his girlfriend who he's been with for 15 years (to the college's surprise) had 4 to go herself, so he stayed and got his full state pension too. Lotto comes to about 250k/yr post taxes, and he's "done it right". Bought a new car and a reasonable house, and banks/reinvests most of his annual take home. |
I never play but bought a few tickets. I’ve pissed away a lot more money before.
|
I had to get gasoline so I ended up buying two tickets. One for me and one for my waiter at the Mexican joint I was going to.
I WON! I WON! Matched two. One number and the Megaball. I had the megaplier so $12!!!! Lambo, here I come. Jackpot up over a billion for the Friday draw. |

Selfish... Not even gonna share with the folks in OT? This is what happens when folks come into the money... they forget about everyone else. :D |

Best move is to parlay that into more winnings. Put it all on Friday!

I feel lucky, I feel lucky, Yeah. No Professor Doom gonna stand in my way. Mm, I feel lucky today. Well, I strolled down to the corner, gave my numbers to the clerk. The pot's a billion, so I called in sick to work. |
Almost never buy a ticket but did yesterday. Guess what: I did not win :(
Husband says I have a better chance of teaching a polar bear to sing. Guess I know what I'll do if I win Friday ;) |

Sweet! I'm gonna go out and borrow 250K against my home to buy lottery tickets. That should make me a lock to win! Wish me luck! |
I remember years ago when lotteries were starting to get big, and were hitting 100 million which at the time was huge. I heard about folks mortgaging their homes and using ALL of the money to buy lottery tickets.
I think I've purchased <5 tickets in my adult life, and most of those were prompted by a girlfriend or something. |
Not one matching number on my ticket. Maybe I should take the hint?
But then, a BILLION? OMG! |
I have bought a hand full of tix over my lifetime, certainly not regularly. My family has benefitted greatly from the lottery, though. Here in SC, the lotto money pays for scholarships. For my nursing program I got $1500/year (which doesn't cover everything but helps). My son has had 4 years of engineering school paid for with lotto money. The amount of money received is based on grades and program. Not sure how other states do things.
Sometimes, when the jackpot gets that big, it's a little fun to day dream about what you would do with the money. Am I going to win? Nope but still an interesting conversation. |
When the lottery folks were campaigning for the lottery vote, we were promised huge sums of money for education.
You know this is for the children! Yea right, the lottery has paid some to the education funds, but nothing at all like what was promised. I have yet to buy a single ticket. At the convenience store-gasoline-liquor store place I bought my gas and beer, they also sold lottery tickets. I would see several regulars in there buying lottery tickets on a regular basis. The never won much more the token amounts to give them hope. At Porsche Parade every banquet meal has door prizes. From small items to sets of tires. In 20 years and untold banquets I have yet to win anything. I see other people I know that have won multiple times, and first time attendees win. At the very first Mercedes Benz club dinner they had 20 people in attendance, and and 18 door prizes. My wife and I did not win anything. My random luck is just not good at all. I have been very lucky in that I had two wonderful parents, I was born in the greatest country ever, and I have had some smart decisions to be in life where I am. So in that respect I am lucky. I have been very luck in health. I will never win a drawing, so why bother. |

So "$810 million"... What would that be after taxes? :(
|
I just saw this. It's not the same lottery but... The Gumbit certainly gets their cut! Wow. :(

One of the million dollar winners is from a little town about 15 miles north of me, Elgin, Oklahoma,
|
I need to check my ticket. Maybe I won?

I'm the worst lotto player ever. I'm the guy who consistently contributes to other peoples wins.
GF was looking through her deceased dad's lotto tickets and he had some OK wins. By that I mean he fairly much broke even. I've played lotto just about every week for 40 years and the best I've ever won was about seventy bucks. Weeks/months of nothing. In fact I have a jar with 40 numbers. I thoughtfully choose 34 and use the 6 I didn't choose. Still no joy. I still also use some numbers my mom chose 30 years ago. Turns out she's not much good at it either LOL |
