Speaking of chilies... if they are roasting (I'm thinking El Pinto at entrance to restaurant) be prepared to feel like you got hit by pepper spray. It can be pretty intense.

I used to buy them freshly roasted and prepared/froze them myself (lasted all year)...but now I get my green chiles shipped to me from Albuquerque...in a jar. I just had some for lunch:

Got back on Sunday. Amazingly, it rained most of the trip but that did not detract from the great time. I loved Santa Fe and am planning to take my husband next time so we can do some hiking and visit Los Alamos. The people were so kind and the city was easy to walk.

The Indian Art Market was going on and I cannot say enough about the talent of the people there. We ate lots of great food. We did a stargazing train trip into the desert but clouds were heavy and we say just one star but it was a pleasant way to spend an evening with drinks and live music on board.

Favorite restaurant was definitely La Choza. Makes my mouth water just thinking of their enchiladas Christmas style.

Zacatlan had a brilliant dinner: Bone Marrow with corn, Lamb Barbacoa, and Creme Brûlée Tart with strawberry rhubarb ice cream.

Looks like you did well...despite going to the desert and a rainy week. Glad you had fun!

You've done your time in NM so I'm sure you understand - even our 9yo girl gets giddy when it rains. After yet another dry winter and even drier spring the water is so welcome, no matter how much of a mess in makes in our basement.

.....aaand now I might be off to SF for some chile! Never done La Choza so perhaps that's on the list.

The rain wasn't like most South Carolina summer rains. There was no lightning and it was steady but no downpour. The temps were amazing there.

And absolutely go to La Choza. I sat at the bar and I was not only impressed by the food but the bartender opened my eyes to the variety of Tequila. She knew what she had, some very expensive, and she could talk of the tasting note of the sipping styles. I never thought of Tequila as a sipping drink (Scotch is my preferred drink) but I might start branching out.

Yes...It is funny that I had to constantly run a humidifier there and a dehumidifier here...although lots of years, we had monsoons late summer/early fall where the dry arroyos (and roads) because raging rivers due to the steep terrain and dry soil (without much vegetation).

I vote yes on the cuisine. We are still planning a fall trip to my home in Albuquerque for some of that good cooking. Maybe around Balloon Fiesta. I just have so much to do here (deferred maintenance) that I am trying to catch up on first as we will stay at least a couple of weeks...maybe longer.

Tequila was considered an Aperitif to be slowly savored until the crazy 70's when the Jose Cuervo salt and lime crowd got ahold of it.

I have a friend who owns a bar in Ventura who has been collecting it for years. He still swears that the best stuff he buys comes in plastic milk jugs brought up from Mexico.
