Very cool.

I prefer the more traditional looks of the earlier models (2004-6?), but the 2017 still looks impressive, and I'm sure the performance is impressive.

Good to see. I'd like to think if I had the money to afford something like this I would drive it. Otherwise, what's the point.

I've posted this before but is relevant again here. My wife's family owned a Ford dealership when the prior GT came out. They had 2 for sale. One buyer instructed them to push it off the transport and into storage and when the next transport came to only push it. They were not allowed to start the engine. Seems a waste.

Actually driven...yes, cool! Imagining driving one over a favorite twisty road. Must be nice to have that kind of money.

It is just beyond my comprehension that you could buy a sports car, and save it for the next owner to drive.

Seems like the early adopters all made plenty-money after letting the car simmer on low for the two years spelled out in the initial sales contract.

What's sad is that many of them had "plenty-money" in the first place, but somehow felt the need to make more.

Was it Smith-Barney who once posited that 'no matter how much money a [person] has, [he or she] usually has no problem with having a little more'?

I saw what I thought was another GT-40 continuation pull into C&C at Trancas in Malibu a few years ago. But the proportions were all wrong. No taller than my knees and rattling like a coffee can full of marbles. It was a real 289 GT-40, not a GT-46 or GT-52 or whatever the newer ones are. You never want to play one-upsmanship with certain of the Malibu crowd. Even Leno walked over to have a look.

Money is like sex.....the more you get, the more you want.

Is it beyond your comprehension of buying something for $450k
and selling it for $1.2mm a few years later ?

My BIL (who started out driving a local delivery truck and now owns the company) bought a Corvette in around 2010. Some special edition convertible. He never, ever, drives it.

Last week he was telling us how he has a 'guy' that takes possession of the aforementioned 'Vette when my BIL goes out of town. Guy keeps it until BIL returns.

Even more weird is he never, other than that time last week, speaks of the car nor of any other car for that matter. Like totally not a car guy. I'm sure it even has the original tires since that is a 'Vette owner's thing.

Exactly. From the beginning Ford said they were only going to make a few, there would be a screening process to be on the list to buy one and you signed a contract that you would not sell it for two years. This is a prospectus for an investment, not an invitation to a unique driving experience. I'm surprised they didn't create a special color matched Mustang GT, or Raptor, available only to first-year Ford GT buyers.

At a Porsche club event in Eureka Springs, every November for three years a guy showed up in in 918. It was so cool to see a car like that on the road, with road dirt, bugs and getting driven.

Glen, I’m sure you remember that last year he left the 918 at home (Dallas I believe) and brought his lowly 991 Speedster. Oh, the choices……..!

I wonder what he’ll bring this year??

I'll use this quote again as this just dawned on me...

The old reply when someone says; "nice car but it is expensive and gets crap MPG". Reply being, "well when you can afford that much for a car you can afford the gas".

Same applies here. If you can afford the cost of the GT or anything else in that price range, then you certainly can afford to drive it. Otherwise, what is the point of owning? Just to look at and say you have one? No thanks.

When I win the lottery and get something like this I will be driving it.

I've met a guy a few times through our vintage race club who probably has the highest mileage GT 04-06 in the country. He travels extensively with his and recently hit over 140k on it. Original owner.

That's probably why they had plenty of money in the first place.
