I cancelled an order on a Pre-War Herringbone dreadnought guitar last December and it just came in and is still available. These sound about as close to a 1930s vintage Martin as you can get, especially for $6K. These take about 28 months to get on a factory order. If anyone's interested, send me a PM.

I think I'm going to get one of these in a couple of weeks. There's no substitute for displacement...

After getting too busy with life recently I hadn't picked up a guitar in months. Many months.
So I saw a post on FB about Guitar For Vets looking for Vets who wanted to take 10 free lessons at the local VFW hall and you get a free guitar. It's to help Vets with PTSD and depression and just a reason to get together with others and talk and make some music. Well, the last thing I need is another guitar (they're some type of Epiphone only cheaper). So it seems some of us know chords and we're bringing in songs to play. My choice was "Guitar Town" by Steve Earle. So I searched for some tutorials and this popped up. Steve is such a good Dude and the story about the guitar is interesting. And it sounds great! "Gotta keep rockin' while I still can, got a 2 pack habit and a Motel tan". I love that line. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pJp6uQw92Gg?si=4z6z-OreGD9Ev8ZN" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I saw Steve play in Calgary a couple weeks ago. I’m a fan of his music and have been for years.
I’m not a fan of his politics and wish he kept that to himself. I paid to see him perform, not talk politics. |
I had a minty 1978ish Takamine F400 12-string lawsuit guitar that needed a neck reset that would have cost as much as the guitar was worth, so I gave it to Guitars for Vets and felt good about it. I figured a vet with strong hands would be a happy camper. Later I found out the sell a lot of guitars donated to them and use the money to buy other guitars. Sounds like they made a deal with Epiphone for inexpensive new ones. There's a lot of decent inexpensive guitars out there. Orangewood seems to be a new player on the market, making pretty nice guitars for $200 to start.

I'm trying to find a good deal on a used Martin CEO-9. So far, they're few and far between, and mostly lefties. There's a chance there's still a couple at the factory- I have a dealer checking with his rep.

I also like the multi-colored rope purfling. Some look awesome, some not so much. Mango varies a lot like koa does. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1726163779.jpg |
Don't you have a small collection of jumbos?

Caveman Luthier is back in business..
Finally putting this ES125 back together, all new electronics.. new harness, locally made pickups.. If some a-hole didn't modify this guitar 30 or so years ago, it would be worth almost $4K http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1737850866.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1737850866.jpg |
Anyone know fender (or squire) starcasters? I’m seriously jonesing for one.

Ship in a bottle time...
I was able to pull the output jack, grounds, and get both pots installed pretty easily... Then while pressing the volume knob on.. the pot fell apart, so I get to take it all apart do some soldering... and do it again.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738538975.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738538975.jpg |
^^^ To make it easier, you could take the back off like JJ Cale. :-)

Beautiful guitars guys! Wow. In a fit of boredom I picked up my old Eko hollow body electric this weekend after receiving a pentatonic scales book from Amazon.
Let me start by saying I've been playing on and off for 50 years...and have no talent whatsoever. I can play virtually every chord possible but cannot play anything that sounds musical. I don't sing so Blowin' In the Wind doesn't cut it. Well...about 2 hours in, I threw in the towel. No idea where fingering through pages of tab to play these scales is going to take me. It's cumbersome, time consuming and again...completely non-musical. My dream of becoming the next Joe Pass screeched to a halt. I truly believe that to enjoy anything...it requires at least a small amount of natural ability. Every time I see a 9 year old absolutely shred a guitar on Facebook, I'm reminded of that fact. On to other pursuits. |

They were top dollar. The CEO-9 appeared to defy normal depreciation. I never got one.

These are the Black Abalone top knobs I ordered.. They are not black, and the abalone fell off immediately. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738774879.jpg |
