Chinese Instagram Chicks

I get a lot of friend requests from super hot 20-30 something Chinese women on Instagram. Then they want to talk. One was about her work as a Chinese artifact/art curator. She supposedly lives in NYC. Another in Shanghai says the next time I come there, she'll show me around. She has two "classic cars", a 90s Firebird and Cadillac. There have been many others. One we went on for months about food, lots of pic sharing. She seemed pretty real.

That said I don't think they are real women. Conversation is interesting. But what's the game?

Not sure if it's rude to post pics, they are on IG so public.

All I get is offers to take ownership of $20M in gold bullion from South African officials.

Completely legit. I'd take the plunge and not look back.

No risk it, no Chinese biscuit.

I suspect this is a variety of the text message phenomenon wherein you get what seems like a wrong-number text (e.g. "Hi Jack, are we on for golf with Barbara on Friday?") whose aim is to seem friendly and innocuous and lure you into a conversation in which eventually, a long time later, you are hoped to reveal personal information or send money or who knows what. A while back I found an article that had a great explanation of this (I'd been getting them from time to time, and they baffled me) but I can't find it. Before I knew what they were I had one or two brief conversations on WhatsApp and they are always ostensibly from young women in Asia.

A friend of mine has a teenage son that was cat-fished to the amount of a couple thousand dollars.

As he started to realize something was wrong..he demanded to meet her in person. It was the last he heard of her.

Block them and move on.

I wonder how you turned up on the phishing radar.

This makes a lot of sense. That said, the one that went on for months was a genuine conversation for months. 3-4. And that was via iphone text with back and forth real time texts. Maybe they were bored. Or it was fun for them. But it never approached scam.

Playing the long game can net a better payoff?

Shaun @ Tru6 09-28-2022 02:58 PM

Could be. I started dating someone and told her I couldn't write anymore. That was that.

There are Chinese women who are looking for a Western Man so they can GTFO out of China.

I am not a Social Media person, but setup a FB profile for Cars and Coffee many years ago. I mainly set it up to store the pictures and send out notices when I first stated C&C here about 16 years ago. Back then it was mostly spread out on forums, then FB came out and I held off. I finally set it up about 10 years ago. I get friend requests from mostly car people, but hotties do slip in. Some are the import model type, others are definitely hotties that have no connection to cars.

Some of them use their looks to further their careers as they are usually selling stuff like real estate or high line cars. Others are looking for attention by flaunting their lifestyle be it real or faked. Then there are the ones looking for someone to get them in the US or keep them in the US, or worse, a sugar daddy.

Maybe I should be playing the long game. One I've been talking with just sent me this pic. Note the symbol in lower right hand corner.
