Two E320s In the House
My wife’s Prius has over 200K miles and has broken down on a roadtrip. So she needed a new car. But new cars were crazy expensive. Used cars were too - this was late last year. A 2012 Toyota Yaris with 100K miles was $8K!
So I got her this ![]() It is a 1994 Mercedes W124 E320. 150K miles but lovely condition, lots of work done, replacement wiring harness, head gasket, radiator, evaporator, bushings, guibo, and so on. She was happy but . . . she really wanted a wagon. I looked for months. Really nice W124 wagons are not common around here. And for some reason all the ones I found were white with elephant gray MB-Tex interior, which is not my favorite. This spring, she was chatting with an elderly neighbor lady who said “my doctor says I can’t drive any more, I may have to sell my car”. My wife looked in the garage and told me the car was a silver Mercedes wagon. Really, what year? No idea. What model. No clue. “It looks silver”. Sigh. Long story made short, I just brought it home. ![]() ![]() It is a 2004 Mercedes W211 E320 wagon. 29,811 miles, one little old lady owner, who for some reason loaded it up with options when she bought it at 78 years old. Sport suspension, 17” wheels, perforated leather “dynamic” seats (heat, cool, air bladders, and I think massage), air suspension. Sadly, no 4Matic. Not perfect - needs a new heater valve (I think), O2 sensors, rear shocks weeping, and radio cuts out for 1 second every 30 seconds (?). Could certainly use a detailing. But it’s been garaged, seldom driven, little old lady faithfully took it to the dealer every year so the oil has been changed every 1,600 miles, etc. For $6,500, I’m happy. Yeah, I wish it were a W124 estate. Or for that matter a W124 E500. But my wife prefers the newer conveniences. The seller has moved in with her 70-ish daughter, also my neighbor. She was sad to see her car go, but I told her it would live just three blocks from her. Now I’m going over there this weekend to hang some hummingbird feeders in their tree and will be doing their Xmas lights. They are neighbors, after all.

What a score!
That W124 is great too. I had a 190e 2.6 and it was a tank.
