Yeah, 7K redline. The steering wheel calls out for a Prototipo.

I'm not one to tempt fate, Baz. With my luck, something serious would break in Bum****, Iowa.

Great car BTW, I've always liked them. Had two different friends in high-school that had one.

Congrats on winning the Roadster, from the windshield it looks like '68, '69 or '70.
The U20 is a great engine and quite powerful for the time. Interesting factoid, when Datsun introduced the U20 in the Roadster it was THE fastest Japanese car (top speed wise). I echo the sentiments on paying extra and going with a trusted carrier and definitely enclosed.

Two quick stories. I have bought 2 cars now on eBay. Both sight unseen except for the photos posted on the auction site. I bought the 356 without even contacting the seller - or asking any questions. And there weren't very many photos on the auction site either. It checked so many boxes I couldn't pass it up and hit the BIN before anyone else could glom onto her. Well turns out the engine was in PA getting rebuilt so I had to wait a week to ten days for it to get shipped to Ft. Lauderdale where the car was, get re-installed - and "adjusted". It was at a local foreign auto repair shop. I took a Greyhound down to drive her back the same day the engine had been re-installed and then drove her back on I-95 - a good 3.5 hour drive with zero issues. The second car was last year - the '97 Volvo 850 wagon. It was in Orlando. No idea about this when I won the auction, but the seller was a father and son who had a legitimate car sales business they ran out of 2 connecting units in an industrial park. They had a lift and an employee from Puerto Rico who helped and he was GOOD! I made all the paperwork arrangements ahead of time so when I got there they had the new registration, temporary tag, and paperwork all ready for title transfer.....and the car and been thoroughly detailed and mechanically gone through - and I mean everything. Again, I had no idea about all this (except the paperwork) until I got there. Needless to say no issues on the 1 hour drive home and couldn't have asked for a more positive transaction. Every situation is different, I know. I have other stories to tell but most came out good, thankfully. Photos of the Volvo the day of pickup. That's my friend CC who drove me over sitting in my new wagon next to the father who sold it to me and ran the shop. And from back in '05 the day I picked up the tub. The seller on the left - me on the right. In the 3rd pic you can make out it has a sunroof. Something that was not mentioned in the eBay ad. Yes, it worked fine and still does.... ![]() ![]()

Thanks, Rod....I got more where those came from!
How about the guy who bought his wife an early 911 for an anniversary/birthday (can't remember) gift - and she didn't want it because it had no AC? So guess who ended up with it? ![]() Ha - I can't get to my weight bench right now - too many chairs and tables in the way!

I'll do a quick story too. I live in New Zealand and bought my SC from a private seller in England. I asked the seller if there in a Porsche place nearby that can do a PPI for me and he dropped it off at RUF GB. RUF were really good and said they were the people who sold the car to the previous owner and know the car well (does that make my car a RUF SC). Did a great PPI as well. They suggested they take the car off the PO and hold it until PO had been paid and both parties were happy. Then they released it to my shipping agent Karmann who drove it across London to the docks and loaded it in the container. RUF did all the paper work. Porsche came out on a ship called the Cape Natal and arrived fit and well in Wellington about a month later. I drove it home from the docks then did the registering and stuff after that. Couldn't be happier. |

I shipped a 914 Can Am edition from Grand Rapids to Spokane in August. It was $2,300 for enclosed transport. I would have gone and gotten it with my trailer but just couldn't take the time and it had sat so long I was uncomfortable driving it that far. As it happens, it ran well when I got it but some of the old rubber fuel lines were leaking.
Anyway, I used an outfit called Supremacy Auto Transport on the recommendation of the seller who had used them many times. They were very responsive and great overall. Looks like a great car, congrats!

^^^ That's funny because I bought my 78SC from Spokane and drove it back to Grand Rapids.
Three days and into my garage...perfect.
