Russian invasion of the USA!

No, not the military, but Siberian air with -60 and -70 degree air is supposed to move over the arctic, then into Canada, and then invade the USA.

All the way down into the southern USA. Here in Oklahoma we are supposed to get to single digit temps and be below freezing for 4 or 5 days. Even as far south as Alabama it will be crazy cold. The folks in North Dakota are used to it, but it needs to stop by Nebraska, but it will keep rolling south.

So the super cold air of parts of Russia's Siberian territories we can't even pronounce, are coming to visit and we have no way to stop it.

This happened 2 winters ago and the polar vortex shut down the TX electrical grid for 2 weeks. Not fun!

Yeah, not looking forward to it.

Thank goodness we made it through that winter "snowmaggedon" OK, so I suspect/hope this will be OK too.

When ERCOT told the power companies to do the rolling blackouts, I think we had 3, or maybe 4. We had a 2 hour outage, then 2 hours on then 1 hour off and 2 on. I think we had one or maybe two other cycles of 1 off 2 on.

Weather wise, I feel sorry for the people in NYC.

Hot as hell during the summer, then freezing their butts off in winter - and this.

Darn. When I saw the thread title I was hoping a new network of Ural dealers was coming to America.

This cold snap is not nearly as bad as the Feb 2021 cold spell.

I had 273 consecutive hours below freezing with numerous days of record lows and low highs. An all time low of -12 was recorded.

For me this cold spell is being forecast to last about 3 days with around 48 consecutive hours below zero. 9 degrees being to low expected temperature. No precipitation is expected here.

Nope it's not predicted to be remotely as bad, but it's still going to suck. If the current prediction is anything to go by, I'm going to have about 50 consecutive hours of freezing temps, and then another 12.

The same heat sink that broils them in summer helps mitigate the cold snaps.

Yeah, I'm not thinking that NYC is that bad since they are up against the Atlantic. It's like Seattle, cold, but not nearly as cold as it would be if they were two or three hours from the ocean.

We're about 90 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Next Fri they are predicting us to be 15º. Our kids that are about 25 miles from the Gulf are predicted to get down to 19º. And Galveston that's on the Gulf is predicted to get down to 27º.

My youngest daughter lives in Dallas in a large apartment complex. They now think it may have sustained damage not apparent at the time and may be required to move. They lived in that place for 2+ weeks with no power.

For the next three days it will not rise above -25 C in 100 Mile House British Columbia. Sometime in the next 75 days or so it will warm up a bit. May have to break out the long johns......

It's been getting into the 30s around here. A bit nipply, but not bad. I feel bad for the citizens suffering in Ukraine. It gets down to around 0 there.

This morning it was 27 degrees with a feels like temp of 17 which is chilly for north Georgia . Next weekend could dip down to single digits ☹️ . I thought I moved away from this crap 😋

I spent most of today outside insulating spigots and blocking off the crawlspace under the house. I should be good/ready for this weekend. What I did kept us safe 2 years ago when we had the big freeze with single digit temps and snow and strong winds. We're actually a little better off now because the pipes in the pump-house are insulated and have a hotwire on them. (that was the only place that froze 2 years ago).

I used to use incandescent light bulbs and insulation for freeze proofing pipes etc. LED are no so good for that.

Last year, I put 2 500W Halogen work lights under the house, and had 1 in the pump house. I don't think that's necessary this year and with the other stuff that we've got going on. Our heat leaks through the floor to the crawl space at an alarming rate. Maybe next year when we have the floors completely insulated, we'll need to do something else, but while I'm insulating, I'm also insulating all of the plumbing under the house, so hopefully, that'll put us in good shape.
