Hah same here . There was something special about going to Woolworth and grabbing a hot dog .

We did the same...except it was Walgreens for the food.
They had booths all along the windows that faced the street...the street was always packed with people.

The Sears store was my first time seeing/riding an escalator.

My most vivid recollection of the local Sears back in the early/mid 60s was their long glass candy counter .

When I first moved away from home and to a new city and state I had no credit record in Oklahoma.

I wanted to establish credit so I went to Sears and applied for their card. It was a funny looking credit card, not the same size as all other cards, but about half the height but same width. I bought some vital tools (OK, I am a tool junkie) and paid them off over two months just to establish credit. I did not carry that card in my wallet to avoid using it to buy more vital tools. All tools are vital aren't they? Sears was one of the very first places to give me credit.

I got a J.C. Penny's credit card as well. They had a great camera and electronics department. I did buy a lens from Penny's and again paid it off over a few months to build credit.

I thought Sears was already long gone years ago. Didn't know they still had stores.

It might also surprise you the Montgomery Wards is still out there in some form or another. Don't think there are physical stores though.

Sears Tower.

We used to be great, we used to do great things. Oh, well, it has been 50 yrs. Kinda like comparing 1900s UK with 1950s UK. Signs of the demise and death of an empire.

Yeah, sometimes remembering the past helps me get past thinking about the future.

As for Sears, in descending order from my 40s back: appliances, tools, cheap Levis on the factory 2nds table, Scout uniforms, and the candy section. The Sears 'wish-book' (ask your parents).

Downfall started when they were sued over the slogan ‘SEARS has everything’ come to think of it a lot of things started to slide with the mentality that brought on that law suit.

Sears who?
I got my main mechanic toolset from USA Craftsman,
but today would start out with all Tekton or something via Amazon.

Just about every tool, tool box, etc. in my garage is a Craftsman purchased in the local stores (3 of them) two decades ago. Their auto center is also who I used to align my Carrera after I r&r'd the suspension and lowered her to Euro height. Called a local air cooled guru and that's who he used and suggested. The mechanic even let me get under the rack and watch him as he could see my results and knew I wanted to learn all I could. He's the only one that's ever touched my car too...

All are ancient history now
