An excellent example of a classic steel frame with modern components (Campagnolo Record 11 speed). Note the seat post. This frame is about 30 to 40mm too small for the rider. Back in the day "a fist full of seat-post" was the standard. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1683672105.jpg |

• I just binned a CF seatpost that had gotten a chip somehow and then proceeded to delaminate and splinter. • I've also destroyed a few alloy posts in the process of removing them from a steel or alloy frame. |
I like that red Colnago, but I'm enough of a purist that, to my eye, box section alloy rims and ss spokes really enhance the look.
(but that is a tiny frame, and tiny frames always look a little disproportionate with 700c wheels, no matter what the finish) |
Oh man we finally had a GOR-G-US day so I geared up and took off. I underestimated my readiness for upper 70s temps. 15 miles kicked my flat butt. Came home, sat down, passed out for an hour.

I do love these old time trial bike! :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1683680339.jpg |
That radial laced front wheel would look the business on the Colgnago with a radial/3-cross on the rear in SS. He loves that Campy front hub. Looks so big on that tiny front wheel.

American Classic seat post are known to break at the seat clamp but that's such-a pretty seat post. I liked them for their light weight with that, it means reliability issues.

Real experts in cycling, I read the article https://www.bikethesites.com/can-you-ride-a-bike-while-pregnant/ but I don't know if I can be trusted, my husband constantly persuades me to ride.

So anyway...
My *"German GF" gave me a "LeMond Revolutionary Trainer". Her ex-husband walked out on her about 3 years ago and left it behind. I've always used rollers but hey it's free so why not? The frame is a classic Vetta (Italian) from the late 80s. A friend gave it to me because the seat post has a small crack at the base. It's fine as a stationary trainer but I wouldn't trust it on the road. I had planned to replace the seat tube but never got around to it. Just mocking up at this stage. The frame will be stripped, prepped and painted soon. - That's a Shimano 105 11 Speed cassette. (* Not actually my GF, more like my little sister. I helped her get back on her feet after he husband left. She moved from Germany to Australia so she could marry her ex-husband and I was the photographer at their wedding. I'm not really sure why but somehow I felt responsible for her. My real GF is a rather nice Aussie Lady ;)) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684028843.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684028891.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684028902.jpg |
I prepped the frame for paint yesterday... Just plain white with no decals.
(Por15 for the base followed by Por Top coat). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684187236.jpg |
I'm still waiting on some nicer weather before I paint... Maybe tomorrow with a bit of luck.
Meanwhile my friends fixie. Just about perfect IMO (drop bars and a straight stem would get it over the line). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684364854.jpg |

I've got a s/s. (I think fixies are scary, but Pete's friends' blue - DeRosa? is very pretty!) I pieced mine together because I needed a crap bike to ride 3/4 of a mile twice a day 4 times a week that could be left locked to a pole on the sidewalk in any kind of weather. I think the furthest I took it was five or ten miles. It's fun, and then it's not, almost like a light switch.

My comments were about the design and execution. Clean build with simple lines. |
