No need to go like hell. Take your time and spin. Spin. That means count your revs on the pedal stroke. Its not easy but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. The most difficult part is to keep it spinning at the same rpm for the duration of the ride. Start with an easy gear, very easy gear. In the beginning, it will feel like you aren't going anywhere with little to no resistance and that's just about right. Do that for 10-15 min, slow down and get up into the next higher gear to rest and ride home. Rinse and repeat next day. Your rev should be at 70-75 to begin with. Gradually working up to 90 in a about three weeks, increase distance or time to about 30 min. No need to bang on those pedals sprinting away. Benefit to cycling is to keep a steady pace, steady rev, and steady distance. Long steady distance AKA, LSD. No need to ride big gears to build up lactic acid, burn out only to slow down to catch one's breath then ride's over and craw home with no real benefit. You must force yourself to remember to keep the pedaling rpm up and keep it up with no resistance and DO NOT STOP pedaling. You will be nearly out of breath but at the same time, not hurting because no lactic acid build up.

If you like me to help with selection of gearing for you, show us a pic of your bike, or tell me how many tooth the front chain rings has.

How do you guys get anaerobic?

Ignore that damn garmin workout summary.
I get the same code, when I know darn well there were some anearobic intervals.

I just bought a set of garmin powermeter pedals today for my gravel bike. I've had two SRM powermeters for years and love them. The garmin will let me switch bikes easier, but overall, I prefer the simplicity of the srm. They seem to be running within 20% of one another, so I need to hone them in a bit.

Garmin has so many electronic nannies I wanna puke. I think I'm gonna do a century this sat. I'll take the SRM. Garmin stays at home. On the gravel bike off the beaten path on some obscure fire road, the garmin topo maps come along.

I'll be doing some anearobic sprint and the touch screen on the garmin cuts out of my heart rate data and tries to upgrade me to windows 11 and bluetooth me a subscription to millenial weekly while ordering an iced cappucino uber. Don't need all that. :)

I rode without a "Dashboard" for years. All the guys swear by them, distances, speed and they talk on the computer through it. I had an old Avocet speedo 30 years ago only to tear it off after couple weeks. I am no longer racing so what's the use of looking at data. I do like a heart rate monitor. Begin saying for years now, still haven't gotten around to getting one. I ride by feel. I know my gearing and my spin will determine my speed. I can bang out the same speed to within a mile or two for 20 miles doing tempo. I remember when those things became popular mounting it on top of the bars. Once I broke off with three others on our training ride, not because we were fast but we shot a yellow light. We tried like hell to stay away knowing there's 15 miles to the finish. Once we turned onto a hill, one guys sat up and stopping pedaling. Myself and another guy were pissed as we went around him. I asked,"what the hell you sit up for?" He pointed at his monitor and said he's past his threshold. The guys on my wheel yells, and sees that's he did not look tired, complains that he needed to pull through for a successful break. I agree, he did not look, sound tired or out of breath. I always say, ride until you hurt like hell and keep going until you almost puke. That's just about right.

I like my bike computer, could live without it, but do like knowing distance and speed.

Many years ago I decided to put one on my track bike and I looked at it on a particular easy race and saw I was going 27MPH... I can’t ride 27MPH? so mentally it slowed me down- one race, that was it and computer was removed!

On flats, use the 48x19 oe 18 tooth gear. If you can't get it going at 75 rpm with that, drop one gear lower and spin it. Keep your eye on your watch and count the revs for 30 seconds then X2 that's your cadence and KEEP IT UP.

Thanks man I appreciate the input.

Let me know how it goes after a ride or two. Its a lot tougher then one may think due to low to little resistance on the pedal strokes. It will work ya

Yesterday, one of the most unusual rides I've ever done; me and a pal cycled 23 (paved) laps of a local cinder cone turned into a city park. Each lap a little over 2 miles with a little over 200 feet of elevation for a total of 50 miles and 5000 feet of vert.

Strangely satisfying, even though it made no sense to do this in the first place. Just done on a whim.

Almost ready for its parts and I'm planning something a little different in that regard. More soon! ;)

Headset came yesterday, a used Shimano 600. Seems ok.

I had to sandblast the frame again today. That "auto" lacquer paint was closer to rubber undercoat than it was to paint. Never Never Never again will I use lacquer from one of the chain part stores.

I still have some Nason from my 911 garage spray. I shook the cans and they seem to be ok. Still a liqued. The cans have been kept in a garage so they never got too hot.

I'm on the fence between using the Nason and Rustoleum. I tested two colors of the Rustoleum and both sprayed fine and cured reasonably well, at least good enough for a steel bicycle frame. The colors I have in Rustoleum are gloss black, gloss white, gloss blue and John Deere green. I don't even have to use primer with the Rustoleum, just shoot two coats and move on to the assembly.

Here is the Nason green from the car paint

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1407457426.jpg

single stage enamel

it has about and hour pot life after you mix the activator and it cures like paint should, not like this goo I bought from the part store

sc_rufctr 05-25-2023 07:56 PM

Nice... I love that GREEN! :)

rwest 05-26-2023 12:43 AM

I vote for the green- high visibility is a good thing in traffic.

flatbutt 05-26-2023 05:01 AM

That green is awesome.
